along with several other of our provincial and dominion cabinet ministers Does Mrs Pratt condone our prime An Sees many changes in US 10 long Dear Sirs Recently my daughter and I visited the It years since I had been there and I must say I saw many changes especially in the large cities which seemed to have deteriorated a lot especially New York City NewYork State is very scenic this is due to Ok mountains and the Hudson River which we followed most of the way as we were going to Newburgh N Y This is a small city about miles north of New York Near here is West Point built right along the Hudson This is an immense establish ment with new buildings In the process of being erected It was Sunday afternoon and the young cadets were out walking with their friends and relatives It wasp leasing to sec such wellgroomed well shaved and shorn young hair here The day we took a ride through the fruit belt The farms here are mostly owned by Italian and Spanish people In front of the many neat forms were religious statues which not only added to the beauty of the countryside but gave it an air of stability and serenity We passed through a small town forgotten the name We stopped to look around Here was located one of New York States Colleges The seminars were in session I must say we were amazed and very disappointed to see the unkempt and shaggy look of the teachers Comparing the two groups teachers and cadets It would seem the emphasis Is still on war and the prospects of war not happy thought Catherine Graham Taxpayers interest counts Dear Sir councillors seem In a quandary over hunting regulations As I know that few members of our Council are hunters or have hunted I will take the liberty of Informing them of the pros and cons of hunting Men and women hunt for many reasons 1 For sustenance To pit their skills against the natural ability of an animal 3 To prove their marksmanship Men sometimes hunt to prove their masculinity women to prove they are equal to men To eliminate vermin Taking each category In turn- 1 I dont think anyone in is so hungry they have to shoot game to sur vive Pitting ones wits against an animal is stalking The hunter uses wind natural cover and stealth to approach within shooting distance This calls for wide open areas of land is not stalking country Dense bush and houses make Need confidence in trustees Dear Sir I have noticed the Acton Free Press Is giving considerable coverage to current events In You may be interested In my opinion of the current discussion concerning water and sewage systems for It bat been interesting to say the least to observe the various Incidents proposals and outcries which have accompanied the establishing of the and District Ratepayers Association I still have trouble trying to figure out why such an association Is needed In the first place We have three elected officials to conduct the affairs of the village I think that three elected officials for a population of less than people gives us excellent represen tation These trustees are residents of the village and are familiar with local problems and opportunities They do not have to work alone In addition to the services of em ployed staff trustees can be approached by any resident who seeks Information or offers suggestions or criticism The trustees are also able to seek outside assistance on major problems as they have done In enlisting the aid of the County Health Board Ontario Water Resources Commission to help solve the present problem Once elected trustees are obliged to conduct village business In the Interest of the whole village At the same time village ratepayers In electing trustees are obliged to accept the fact the trustees are in reality acting in the best Interests of the whole village The need for a ratepayers association is only apparent because of the failure of citizens to accept their own responsibility in the election of their trustees The place to question the actions and intentions of village trustees Is at a nomination meeting and also at an election ACTON HIGH minister Pierre osculating every pretty female It certainly won him the votes maybe Mrs Pratt has never been osculated poor soul Hair is a play as I saw It depicting Peace Brotherhood Love the nude scene was so brief that if you blinked your eye you missed it Mrs Pratt youve gone flat Irate By Msry Ann Staff Photo support of our Foster child In the Philippines hunting hazardous Most open fields ore grazing areas for domestic cattle Marksmanship can be proven on the range where the public is protected against stray shots ricochets etc I dont think that we in need to prove our masculinity and as for equality I think our Reeve can attest to that To eliminate vermin Many people in board breed or own horses and I can see that groundhogs etc can be a menace to these people and their rights and interests should be considered I would as a taxpayer of some 15 years standing Nassagaweya hope that the members of Council will continue to look after the best interests of the taxpayers of Nassagaweya and not the interests of various hunting organizations or Individuals who are not residents or taxpayers of Nassagaweya It seems interesting that Just a few short months ago at the last nomination meeting we just managed to raise the three trustees necessary to fill so that an election vote was not required I suppose that at nomination time the autumn chill brings a of winter that makes it hard to get warmed up to talking about a water and sewage project that seems to be so far of In the future The present situation has not Just been sprung upon us since the last nomination meeting It has been going through study and development stages for several years Trustees have been familiar with these developments and any citizen could also keep informed if they desired I believe that two facts have been accepted here for many years would some day be required to Install water supply and sewage disposal systems Costs for these services would be high because of local conditions Now that the time seems to be drawing near when these facts may be realized apprehensions naturally seem to rise This is no time for citizens to withdraw their civic responsibility as electors I feel sure that anyone can easily talk with one of the elected trustees in order to find out first hand how certain areas may be affected what decisions have been made and what questions remain for decision by the Trustee Board That final decision may be difficult enough to carry through to a working suc cess under the best conditions I do not believe that we can effectively plan and complete village projects when facts and statements are distorted by pressure groups and issues are clouded by over exposure to the glare of publicity What we need is a little extra show of confidence in our elected officials and while were at it I think we could all probably stand a little more confidence
