Awards to 100 Halton 4H members It was awards night for 100 members of Heltons agricultural clubs on Friday when recipients and donors of trochlea and a host of awards gathered In St Pauls United Church In Milton for the annual ceremony that signals the end of another successful year of work This past year 100 members enrolled in projects They completed 138 of them for a per cent completion There were first year members receiving awards second year mem bers 18 with up to five projects completed 17 with six to projects finished nine with 12 to 17 projects and four senior members with 18 or more projects completed Top member club member in for 1S70 was Keith Aitken who received the J E trophy The Hog Producers trophy for the most outstanding 4 Her with under projects completed went Bill Stokes while Marianne Lepa won the Claude trophy as the outstanding first year Premier club of the year was the Acton 4H Field Crop Club Mary Anderson won the secretary of the year award In their opening remarks agricultural representative Henry J Stanley and his assistant Hugh Cook congratulated all 4H members and thanked the leaders for donating their time and assistance to the program The awards night Keith has completed projects in nine years of work with of these over 80 percent completion and of the projects over percent He placed first In each of the four projects he undertook this year Out of a possible 1 points in each project he had points in the Acton Calf Club points in the Acton Field Crop Club grain section points In the corn section and points In the Halton Sheep Club At his Achievement Days he was first in Showmanship and his Shorthorn Steer was first in its class at Acton Fair He was first in Showmanship and his market lamb placed first in its class at Georgetown Fair His exhibits of corn and oats both placed first in the Field Crop Club Achievement Day in Acton His exhibit of oats placed In the first prize group at Erin Fair and his Shorthorn Steer was seventh in the first prize group in its class He was fourth in the Senior Section of the Livestock Judging Competition and second in the Senior Seed Judging Com petition In the Seed Judging Competition he won the Small Seeds Judging Trophy and the Coarse Grain Judging Trophy The Norval Junior Farmer Trophy which is awarded to the highest combined score in the County Seed and I Judging Competitions goes to Keith He was awarded the Soil and Crop Im provement Association Trophy for highest standing in the Acton Field Crop Club and the Nino Braida Trophy for the highest standing in the Acton 4H Calf highest standing in these two clubs won him the H Trophy for having the highest combined score He was awarded the Ontario Sheep Breeders and Producers Trophy for the highest standing in the 4H Sheep Club Keith was selected by the Rural Learning Association as a delegate of Ontario to attend a week long Conference in Alberta Halton plowing match at Biggar Bros farm The annual plowing match and Furrow Queen competition is scheduled for Saturday Nov at the Biggar Bros farm in The Furrow Queen contest had to be cancelled earlier in the year but organizers are hoping for a good turnout for the competition The banquet will be held at the Masonic Lodge on Highway Crown attorney Doug Latimer will be guest speaker at the banquet Lot of Variety The event will feature several plowing matches with tractors and horses plus a horse show and horseshoe pitching The annual event draws a large segment of the population each year Contestants for the Queen of the Furrow contest must be years of age and not have reached their birthday by Nov but can be married or single Winner of the event will have the opportunity to go on to the international match year The queen
