The Acton Free Praaa December 16 Grade tour U of G By Mary Ann The Christinas spirit sounds loudly En the halls of Acton District High School this year The grade should be commended on their fine job Either Santa or Mrs pays a visit to the school each morning and reads their letters over the after the morning announcements So far hes received letters from both students and staff Its surprising some of the requests he gets lotion for Rubs and a lie detector for the secretaries so they can tell which students have written the notes which are supposedly from the parental Assembly The AnttGrinch society has a fantastic assembly planned for next Tuesday This will be the first assembly this year in which our own students will be allowed to participate Different home forms have planned skits as well as musical numbers by individuals and other school talents The choir contest will be held this Friday Several of the language classes are participating singing Christmas songs in the studied languages Individual groups of six or more have Joined In Even a number of boys have formed their own choir and will be entering the contests Decorate rooms Several classes have already decorated their class room or have plans for its decoration Once again a prize will be awarded to the best decorated room class wishes to apologize the people who were unable to buy their Christmas trees from them last Saturday To avoid confusion and to assure service the trees will be sold at definite hours Monday to Friday from Saturday We hope our lack of organization wont discourage you from and taken on tours to the buildings to the best of their interest Grade 12 classes will be visiting Sheridan College in Oakville Tuesday and Wed nesday Coke stagers The Christmas dance will be held Monday Dec Unlike the other dances this la a dressup dance no Jeans allowed The music will be supplied by The Cycle This is the group which sings the Coke commercials on television Yes its the real thing The dance runs from Plan to attend By Debbie Bould Friday Dec 11 we the grade thirteen class went on a tour of the University of Guelpb We met our guide Jim Ward in the McLaughlin library where our tour began The librarys books suggested to us that more than one day would be needed to make use of the facilities Completing the tour of the library we made our way through the snow to the Arts Building The most interesting part of the tour of the department proved to be the Language Laboratory where studying Is done by means of bead phones an aid to both the student and the professor By listening in to students Individually from the master control the professor can spotcheck difficulties and work with those students requiring help while the others progress at their own speed Seafood club By Carol Patterson The home economics room at changed appearance for Christmas this year It boasted a gaily decorated Christmas tree and streams of holly and Monday evening many busy people took this opportunity to escape from the Christmas rush and enjoyed the leisure of the tea and bazaar held at the MA Make more For weeks before the girls of the home economics club were as busy as beavers planning and sewing doll clothes and stuffed toys for this special event As the day approached during class and after school the girls made lovely sandwiches cookies and squares to serve at the tea and to sell on the bake table They found that the cuddly animals they had made sold very quickly and they took orders and will make some more for the customers Draw made Mrs Fleischer Home Economics teacher worked very hard helping the dub and they planned an enjoyable evening for sale were displayed Girls took turns pouring tea at the head table which displayed a lovely Christmas centre piece There was a draw on the centre piece which was made by Mrs Bessie Musselle and won by Mrs Bowan Another table was laden with sandwiches and sweets for the te Visitors sat around the room and were served by the many hostesses of the evening Confusion its valuable ByJCrlsteHo The Christmas Season is here and with It the confusion of people in many directions at once getting nowhere However mis not apply to the students at Acton High School who are involved In the Chrisbnas program There Is confusion among them but they are far from getting nowhere Activities varying from room decorating contests to the Christmas assembly have been carefully planned and carried out with the spirit of Christmas running high In all those Involved It seems to me that many students are enjoying themselves this year preparing for different parts of the Christmas activities and that many have what is termed Christmas Spirit As a teacher I feel that putting together a program such as this is Just as valuable to a student as the strictly academic aspects of school Order Installation automatic protection Copies of photographs and clippings from the Free Press have been circulated to all Commonwealth Caribbean schools twinned with counterparts In Ontario the result of a visit from two teachers to Acton schools in June of this year Students at the Robert Little school presented Albert Nathaniel and Lionel Joseph with a scrap book which included pictures and clippings from this newspaper on their visit here Mr Nathaniel Is principal of a school In St Lucia and Mr Joseph viceprincipal of a school In Trinidad The two teachers returned home to the Caribbean after their tour of the province which culminated in a principals course at Kingston During their one day visit in Acton the Free Press took photographs and a the June 17 edition Impressed This week Robert Little principal G McKenzle received word from the Carib bean that the scrap book photographs and clippings had been brought to the attention of the Minister of Education for the Islands and the chief education officer They were impressed and ordered photo copies made for distribution to all schools twinned with those hi Ontario The scrap book included stories about Acton the chief industries schools and personalities Three classes at the M Bennett are twinned with schools In the Caribbean as well as the
