The Acton Free Tuesday December 22 NOTES FROM ACTON HIGH By Mary Aon In the air there a a feeling of Christmas This phrase is certainly true of Acton District High School The first thlngt the students have heard in the morning for the past week is the Joyful music of Christmas songs and carols This is courtesy of the Staff Students Relations Committee Many of the rooms have been decorated for competition and the roomdecorating contest Desks have been rearranged from the usual fiverow formations to form different designs and patterns The main hall of the school lets one know immediately of the festive season by means of two huge posters saying Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Toys for others As in years before the students have been Invited to bring new and used toys and other articles for those less fortunate than ourselves The box In the Guidance Office Is quickly filling with wrapped gifts and stuffed animals Remember trading gifts with one another Is exchanging Its giving a little something to someone with no exchange but gratitude that can really warm your heart Great success The choir contest last Friday was a great success The preliminaries were held Thursday and the best of those chosen for the finals on Friday The winners were the Junior Cheerleaders and in the senior division The Christmas Angels placed first The latter deserve special mention The choir consisted of grade 12 boys dressed as angels Their composition was their own version of Good King These boys should be commended on their ease and the spirit they helped bring to the school Assembly On Tuesday there will be a Christmas assembly The Antl Grlnch Society put out a plea for student talent and were overwhelmed by the response Classes and students from all grades volunteered their services which will make our last school day In 1970 a good one Sheridan visit Grade Btudents visited Sheridan College In last Tuesday and Wednesday The tour was generally conducted In the arts section where they saw different photographic techniques dress designing and art work to name but a few On display were several photographs produced by George Beshtri a former student at A H S Mrs Flelshcr and Mr Ellis served as for the trips As the students there were celebrating Christmas the halls were decorated accordingly and evergreens were present As an added attraction Treasure Van was there A large collection of unusual were displayed for sale Tree sale The grade 12 Geography class Christmas tree sales went fairly well If anyone is still without a tree there are still a few left Acton District High School toured Sheridan in Accompanying the group on Tuesday were Mrs Fleischer Homo Economics teacher ami Mr Doberthein With Wed nesday a group Mr Ellis English teacher and Mrs Price Latest fashions Tours began in the Faculty Lounge and from there wo were escorted to tho Fashion Department the latest fashions were being designed and made by students After that we were guided to the painting room where wo observed paintings from abstract to contemporary The Photography Department was well supplied with equipment the most modem photography rooms in North America are at
