the legion auditorium With a membership of including five town members the average attendance at meetings has been The membership increased by four new members during the year Membership was divided Into six groups each group headed by a counsellor was responsible for programs and lunch for meetings Fundraising We had three fundraising projects during the year a bake sale in April candy and cake booth at the Fall Fair and our annual November bazaar These were very successful enabling us to do considerable work in the community and fulfill our commitments to provincial and federal headquarters During the year we assisted several needy families At Christmas In cooperation with the Rotary Club hampers of food clothing and toys were distributed Members assisted the Acton Cancer Society years efforts As a member of the National Organization we donated to Canadian Scene Gordon Fund Commonwealth Relations Fund Korean Projects Fund Peace Garden Fund and Shipping Fund Provinclally our donations went to the Fund Educational Fund Services at Home and Abroad Locally we contributed to the Decoration Day Committee Canadian Legion and Poppy Fund Interesting programs Programs throughout the year covered a variety of interests Three pot luck suppers preceded meetings as well as a Chinese dinner We celebrated our anniversary at the April meeting Members attended the Mohawk Raceway one evening enjoying dinner and an evening of racing Harry Otterbeln showed slides and spoke on his hobby Railroading Mrs Laura showed slides and gave a very interesting account of her trip to Inuvlk W T including meeting the Queen and Royal family and attending the Arctic Games local class winners of the North Halton Masic Festival sang the May meeting Two local young people Marianne Coles and Joe entertained musically at the June meeting In the fall Mrs Manscll gave a demonstration of cake decorating At several meetings West convener of Citizenship an outline of sections of Canadas Family free a most Interesting book and of great value to the IODE Ready todo best The members express their appreciation to our Regent Mrs A Orr and to the various conveners for their leadership and enthusiasm during the year 1970 was a gratifying year of effort and accomplishment for the chapter and It Is hoped that the coming year with Its challenges and needs will find Lakeside Chapter members ready to
