Fairy Lake and nearby country area The main purpose for the outing was to study different areas of the environment and compare their similarities and differences wants to make students more aware of the environment in order to appreciate It more Twenty four students who went were divided into six groups to cover different locations such as a meadow the deciduous forest on the north side of Fairy near the first line a swamp south of Fairy Lake a coniferous forest and a small ravine on the northwest shore of hairy Lake Observe sample Most groups made on plant growth animal life although some students returned with soil and water samples The trip was a success and we all learned quite a bit The only problems were that Gary t to stand up as his group chose a location on a slope and Hank who was leader of the swamp group took an unfortunate cold swim All in all the trip was fun and educational By Co ric Maxwell Last week the assistant to the director of education of Halton County Mr came are Through his few hours of talk at Acton High we discussed free time teachers projects individual study protests his job marks school sizes Amchitka problems among citizens pollution school dress and a varied number of other topics Much impressed He was talking to one boy who is in the student assistant program and was greatly impressed by what he feels is the roots of Acton High He asked the same student why he enrolled in the assistance program and the student said It was because he wanted to help other people Mr Lavender feels that the assistance program is an excellent way of achieving the objectives of education as defined by Halton County which is the process of becoming personally mature and socially responsible Based on a few hours talk Mr lavender thinks that Acton High Is
