Acton When transferred to Milton the Mason family took up residence In the Town of Acton The growing Mason family was very fond of the town and Ray Mason took an active part In minor sports He had a special interest in the Tanners mediate hockey association of which he became president Ray Mason was also a prominent figure in the Acton Baseball Association During one season he spent many hours his own time preparing the ball diamond for a championship game With the closing of Acton s own municipal force in the Ontario Provincial Police took over the responsibility of policing the town With this move Ray Mason was appointed to the rank of Corporal and placed in charge of the newly formed Acton detachment During the years that Corporal Mason was in charge of the Acton detachment a number of constables served under his command Each one of these officers could not help but grow fond of of Ray respected him not only as their superior officer but as a fnend as well Such respect was evident on Thursday July 27 1972 when an estimated 150 police officers attended the funeral of the late Mason Fellow police officers were not the only ones grew to like and respect Ray A great many of the citizens of Acton were also fond of him He became a familiar face to the town people and was considered part of the town itself Hundreds of citizens paid tribute to this very deserving by his
