question students at the High School The question asked was Will you want to continue living in or around Acton after youve finished school university or can you hardly wait to leave The answers In middle Joanne Grade thought that she would stay In this area I wouldnt want to live In a bigger town When I can afford a car I might commute to a city but here you are right In the middle of everything Georgetown Oakville Hike that Karen Pierce agreed I wouldnt live in downtown Acton but rather in the sticks outside In cities the homes arc like little boxes in a row too cramped for is a gossip town you cant do anything without everybody knowing about it Plan to leave Others also planned on leaving was dissatisfied because there are not many Jobs here except in factories few stores little transportation I dont like Acton D C felt that there was no future here Grant Gibson Stanley and Kathy all plan to stay Grant lives In the country its quiet and not as hectic as the big city Elite likes Acton because its small 1 dont like big towns Kathy enjoys living here all my friends are In Acton Go west However Gary Copeland would leave to go west to Vancouver Bruce Swift would also go but for a different reason hasnt got the type of career I want some sort of outdoor conservation or wildlife Job Bill Chapman would leave to bo more accessible to a Job in the Notes from Acton High area of lands and forests J J feels that I would move to another part of Canada Acton la a good town but I Just dont want to stay living here Its too close to home Sue Brooks also hopes to travel I would like to work for a year and then go to Europe However afterwards I might buy a home in the country not right In Acton but not too far away Would return In the same way Deb would leave for a white anyway But I dont hate Acton when I got a Job and had enough money I would probably come back here and commute Maria lives in Eden Mills but she also plans to leave I would work In Guelph and live there by myself There la more to do there T complained that there are no jobs or luxuries here its not a big enough place I want to travel Nonetheless Ruth Kirk wood and Janice Swackhomer both seem contented Ruth has lived here till her life and Just wants to stay and Janice wouldnt want to leave all the friends shes made Might change On the other hand P and Sue would all leave has lived hero for 12 years but prefers a big to a small town dont know though she added lack of opportunities for young people Newcomer Sue feels that Acton is too small for me Im used to the and like conveniences Grade 13 student Is already moving away and doubts whether she will return Acton is a small greasy town very uninspiring But so as not to end on a sour note Yvonne adds Im willing to help with the youth council anyway I Half and half Conclusion of the twentytwo students questioned twelve would leave seven would definitely stay here and three would go off exploring for a little while and then return to settle Myself I am fairly new to the area and although Acton Is not the most beautiful town I have ever seen the people ore very friendly and I hope to stay here at least another year ByJanlceGlbson The first week back at school was first not very exciting Many students had only two days of school because last Thursday an ice storm prevented many of the buses from running In spite of the weather a group of students and their teacher Mrs Huenikcn went to the Royal Ontario Museum for an art trip This last weekend Mr Boris of Ukrainian origin had his Christmas The Ukrainians use the old calendar so their Christmas falls on January Their New Year exactly a week later Merry Christmas Mr and a Happy New Year Field trip in history On Thursday January despite adverse weather Mrs Hueniken and her Grade 11 history class went on a field trip to the Royal Ontario Museum At the museum we went downstairs where we lelt our coats in the coat room then It was up four flights of stairs for the morning tour on Oriental Art and Judaism Originally It was thought that the two tours would be separated into morning and afternoon but because the museum had very little on Judaism it was all In one Our guide for the morning was Miss Fitzgibbon The tour was not the where the guide rambles off a memorized speech but more of a teaching process with the guide asking questions and getting you involved in what you were seeing There were many Interesting and colourful exhibits Indians next At the end of the morning tour we took the elevator down no more stairs for us After getting our coats we were free to go and have lunch and If we had time left many of us browsed the stores At one oclock it was back to the museum for a tour of the Indiana As In the morning our guide asked us questions andi encouraged us to ask questions hopefully leading to a better understanding of the exhibits we were seeing The exhibits covered the Indians right across Canada from the Pacific to the Atlantic coast At two oclock It was back on board the bus for the trip home The day was a success and Gobis Continuid from Pace For what its worth there are those who send a hearty vote of thanks to Murray McLaren who recently resigned from his position as village foreman Always cooperative and willing Murray will be sadly missed in several capacities by many householders and its to be hoped that he will find satisfaction in his new occupation and that Rock- wood villagers will be successful in obtaining even a partial supplement for his friendly diligence and general good humoured attitude In applying it If you didnt read the posters then missed out on a village fun night last Friday when over ISO hot dogs were consumed by those who did It was skating on the pond combined with Christmas tree burning and warmup time for parents and offspring as hot buttered popcorn completed the postChristmas outdoor party at the Millstone Restaurant grounds as host Glen Guest feted and feasted his Rock- wood friends RENT HOT AT ACTON HYDRO ALICE STREET Milton Investigated 12 collisions on North roads in the past week The accidents involved 19 vehicles Three persons were injured and
