JJ Kennedys honored on golden anniversary The Acton Free Wednesday MARRIED SO YEARS Mr and Mm J J Kennedy of Milton were honored at Open House at school and a surprise family dinner at the Mohawk Inn They spent most of their lives in Nassagaweya township before moving to Milton in Residents of Nassagaweya and Milton all their lives Mr and Mra John J Kennedy of 206 Martin Si Milton marked a happy golden wedding anni versary with an open house and family dinner Mra Kennedy was the correspondent from No school district for the Acton Free Press from 1M0 to IBM They were at Home to close to friends relatives and neighbors at Hall Sunday April 8 then went to Mohawk Inn at Campbellvllle Tor a surprise family dinner celebration with 11 members of their family They were showered with gifts cards and flowers and received letters of congratulations from MP Terry OConnor and federal opposition leader Robert Stan- Ntiiaf residents The Kennedys were both born and lived in Town ship until 1W9 when they moved into Milton His family descended from the Bella who settled In Nassagaweya In the 1940s and Miss Joanne home from Gravenhurst for Easter weekend Mr and Mrs Lands- borough and Ralph visited in Petrotla and Sarnla on Friday and Saturday Mr and Mrs Moore and Ronnie Ricky and and Randy Mclntyre spent the weekend In Powasaan and brought back Mrs Mrs Moores mother to stay in the Mr and Mrs Bruce and David of Fergus were holiday visitors with Mr and Mrs Doug Price Mr and Mrs Fred of Niagara visited with them on Sunday Mr Charles Cults Is a patient In General Mrs Dwtght Haven came from Comber to attend the Citizen of the Year dinner honoring her nephew and spent the weekend with Mr and Mrs RH Elliott Mr and Mrs Elmer Henny visited at the home of cousin Mac Sprawl last week befove returning to Western Canada Mr and Mrs Mervin Barber 1 Acton and Mr and Mrs Ken Ellis Sargent St Georgetown went on one of Aunt bus tours to the Grand at Nashville Tennessee week and enjoyed It very much Mrs Mary Osbournc attended the wedding of her Sandy St Denis to Stefan Kan- in Sudbury April 13 She also visited with her daughter Marie Bellamy and family in Aurora for two weeks Three families who are returning to the Maritime are making the move by bus They had intended to move their pounds of good by van line but Instead purchased a school bus There will be 13 children and six adults with their possessions making the trip to Bridgewater Nova Scotia The families of Tom Van of Acton Andy Vroom and Houwellng of Georgetown will be pulling up roots here and moving east The bus will take two trips for the move Bev was home with the family for her winter break from PerthHuron School of Nursing Stratford Also visiting Mrs Sam Brunelle were her sister Mrs Olga Carter from Wisconsin and on Easter Sunday her other sister Mrs Mary from Downsvlew arrived with daughter Janet and Alex who axe students at the University of Western Ontario Miss Karen Chipeska ac companied them Soper and Smith connections who were also early township settlers Both attended School on the Fifth and they were married by the Rev T at the Presbyterian Church manse on April 18 Their attendants were Miss Maggie Irving and Miss Alice Kennedy They lived at several places In the township before moving to Milton Since 1960 they have lived with their daughters Marie and Pearl on Martin St Mr Kennedy Is an avid fisher man and conservationist and nearly every day in the spring and summer months youll find him fishing at the mill pond on Martin St His wife calls him a Jack of all trades as he has worked at many things during his life He quit school at the age of 14 to work In mill in and stayed there several years culling lumber all winter and sawing it up at the mill In the summer months Batcher trade He has also worked for the townships roads crew plastered painted worked in the Wool Combing mill at Acton threshed and spent some time as a deputy flame warden He worked for a butcher for a few years then entered the trade on his own and after moving to Milton worked tor a while at and Morleys butcher shop They raised their family during the depression when work was scarce and he con recoil cutting wood for a cord It took all day to cut a cord of wood and that wasnt any eight hour day he recalls If it rained you had to keep cutting because you afford to lose that dollar He also recalls playing the violin for country dances for many years The group he played with broke up in 1931 Mrs Kennedy was caretaker of school for several years and later took up dressmaking She spent 22 years as a clerk at the Sclrite store and retired from that Job last December She Is active In the Mountain Union Womens Institute and the Coron ation Group of Knox Church In town She was active several years ago In the North Halton Association for the Mentally Retarded and served as education committee chairman for three years around the time the groups School first opened dinner The couple three daughters Marguerite Mrs Edgar Marie and Pearl at home There are four grandchildren and three great grandchildren Their daughters arranged Die open house and surprise anniversary dinner
