and a Georgetown boy Ann has won the Dr Ethel Chapman scholarship awarded by the District Women Institute She the daughter of Mr and Mrs J Bruce McClure Georgetown For her efforts Ann will be Despite an abundance of rain over the past week the situation on local farms is still pretty serious It rained so hard in the spring that the ground Is too hard the rain just soaking In Wilfred Leslie an area farmer said We broke up the ground around the corn and it has a crust on it like a floor Very solid Chester Early said After facing a deluge of rain weevils and then a dry spell most observers had expected the farm situation to be well In hand since wo have lotten considerable rain ately But that has not been the case Most farmers would agree with Leslie when he says recent rain t helped
