Snow Ontario Minister of Government Services will officially open the 1974 International Plowing Match and Farm Machinery Demonstration on Tuesday Sept A lifelong resident of MPP Snow lives at Hornby Just a few miles south of the match site The following remarks he made while addressing the 1974 annual meeting of the Ontario Plowmen s Association in Toronto last February arc still applicable today Mr chairman ladies and gentlemen May I thank you very much for the opportunity to speak to you this morning at the 1874 Plowmen Association convention I especially welcome the oc to speak to you as the representative in Ontario Legislature for the riding of nit and the representative of the aria where jour 1974 International Plowing Match to be held 1h en born and raised on a farm in County and having participated limes as a Contestant in the local plowing matches it goes without that have very keen interest in the plans bung made by the County Com nutlet for what I am sure will be the finest International Plowing Match and Machinery Demonstration to date I am sure you arc already aware that this is the very first time that Halton Couty has had the great honor of hosting this event and if I ma speak for a moment on behalf of the citizens and elected representatives of the county I extend to a very sincere welcome to Join us from to September Plan rung for such an event takes a great deal of coordination and cooperation and I assure our committee has been working for many months in making these preparations The farm land that will be used for this plowing match is located the former Township of which is now part of the new Town of Hills This area has some of the finest and richest agriculture land to be found in the Province or Ontario The host fanner Mr Craig Held and his neighbors have generously made this available to use for the match It so hap- that some of tha land that will be used this match was farmed by my father and grandfather back in the late IBM and far a few years after the turn of the century Ladies and gentlemen the honor given to County in hosting this match is something wc should all be proud of but along with the pride that accompanies an event such as this comes a great deal of responsibility Responsibility to know and to realize that the International Plowing Match more for s agriculture community than anything that has hap pened in this area Responsibility in knowing that public attention will be fa used on us from all across Canada and the United States of these responsibilities I see as a great opportunity for us In to put our best foot forward and a duty for tain of us to be on band to welcome the many thousands of visitors that will 1 also see thi International Plowing Match as a happening that wilt do more to the urban and rural people of Ontario any other kind of an event With Hi I ton i ideal location in such a passive rurulsitung and yet so close to the densely populated urban areas of Toronto and the Golden Horseshoe I am sure can expect crowds not only from the agriculture communities of Ontario but also from the large urban areas I understand the tented city will be the largest in history housing the exhibits of farm machinery equipment silos pi museum as well as farm and government organization displays What a challenge we of us between now and September JAMES SNOW Holton East MPP and Minister of Government Services Watch for pickers Watch out for pickpockets during your villi to the next Meek crooks frequent Urge gatherings of people and can make quite a haul if voure not careful Police report a picker works best when he bump up against you In a crowd For your own sake carry a lot of money to the match Splitting your wad and palling II in two different pockets mean he difference between losing all Keep wallets in deep pocket preferably one with a button Ladles should keep a tight grip on their at all limes and wrap It oirr their arm If possible Den flash a big roll of bills around that a an open In illation to a thief If you do get robbed Report It to police Immediately Any In formation yon can give them may help apprehend the picker and prevent him From robbing others
