Art Fever outbreak sweeps high school CUTTING THE STRIPS of clay Jeff Gardiner shows one of the first steps in making a coil pot He was on hand the high school gym last week for Art Fever an art show displaying students work over the past semester Over students at Acton high school were treated for Art Fever on illness which gets Into the system of arts students In the month of June As other students and parents walked in to the gym last Thursday evening and day they found that they loo were bitten by the bug Art Fever is unlike any known sickness to man Germs are not spread by sneezing and coughing but by enthusiasm interest and talent Displays Art Fever Is an art show put on by art students displaying their work for the second semester Many pupils in the first semester also had work on display Paintings pottery weaving and other crafts were all out for everyone to see Demonstrations of pottery making wcav and wheel were seen in the gym while films and slides were shown in class rooms Music was piped Into the gym adding the the excitement while the students worked on demonstrations or sold handmade crafts A steady stream of people went through the show on Thursday evening and Friday according to art teacher Mrs June Levy with draws for prizes being made at regular intervals All day Friday students from the various art periods had a sidewalk coloring contest outside the school Chalk drawings on con covered the sidewalk at the entrance outside the gym and on down toward the main entrance A few drawings made their May onto Acton Boulevard Principal Dean Fink and Director of Education Lavender judged the artists works and called a tie between Susan Mellor and Dan Warren Tl visitors according lo Mrs Levy were impressed by the organization of the event and the way the students were able to work together She said that many parents made comments about the pottery wheel expressing surprise of Its existence Mrs Levy said the objective of the art show was to show the public what the school offers and the talents which are hidden Within the school Jim Goring another art teacher and industrial arts students worked along with Mrs Levy and the art students to put on Art Fever Vaccinations have been given so the school has quietened down since the out break However the vaccines are not guaranteed to last until next June When another outbreak of Art Fever is due WOOD SCULPTURING was displayed by grade ten student Karen Tuffin at the high schools Art Fever last Thursday and Friday Karen helped set up the wood and shop display at the art show offensive that students left the classroom has been banned from ill Schools Thurd Director of tin Lavender reported to Board of Education about a sexually oriented film which was shown at a Burlington High School recently The film entitled Thermal Visions was shown at the school by an unidentified Burlinaton resident who was just another in a long series of euest speakers from the community brought into the school over the year The speaker is considered an expert in making red films Lavender said over students saw the movie and some left because they found film The movie was described as showing the complete sex act and variations He reported the principal has talked with all students who saw movie and also has spoken to the teachers involved Lavender said the school has admitted the movie was never previewed and it has been agreed it should never have been shown In addition the teachers involved now believe they should have baited the showing when its contents became obvious He added
