The Acton Free Press Wed July Icelandic roots 50th anniversary celebrated Saturday It was grand said Freda and Bert after 100 friends and relatives gathered Saturday in the Music Centre to join with them in celebrating their golden wedding anniversary Surrounded by gifts cards flowers and family they spent a beautiful evening They have lived in quite a few places in the past years and their relatives are scattered all over the try They came from as far British Columbia for the occasion Retired Mr and Mrs have sold their home on the highway south of town and live in Elliott Lake where he retired from his position as carpenter a foreman at Dennison Mines after years He has been retired five years and they keep busy He sometimes teaches carpen try at Blind River and Elliott Lake They have been travel ling lately and enjoying it and the gift from all the BERT AND FREDA ROGNVALDSON celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday at a party given by their family at the Music Centre Mrs is a plate presented by Mr son s brother and sister in law from Grand Prairie while Mr Rognvaid son displays a needlepoint picture given to the happy couple by his sister and her husband family at the anniversary party wai a purse containing ihe wherewithal for a trip to Iceland Both hove Icelandic roots hers on both sides and his just on hie father side They have been back before look ing up relatives They both speak and understand Ice landic and Freda can write It easily as well They enjoy the regular Ice landic reunions held in this part of the country Bert Is also kept busy with his brothers and sisters In law keeping up the family tradition of making spinning wheels His father originated the design which the brothers still They can t keep up with the orders Out west They were married June in Foam Lake and their first move was Van Then back to Lake where Bert helped his father In the ship building business Things were lough the depression and a terrible memory is the night Mr Sr shipbuilding plant burned down with two completed fishing boats in It He then worked at wood working and blacksmithlng and as millwright at jenny then Lake Winn He became engineer at a hatchery at Dauphin River next and then an in on Ihe Jake boats At this time Ihey lived in Winnipeg for five years and various members of the fam ily came lo live with them to go to school They remember It as one of Ihe happiest times others always around as well as their own two children He went next to Red Lake as carpenter foreman and then to Acton about years ago And from here to Elliott Lake Son Jack lives at Elliott Lake and was here with his wife and three of his five daughters Daughter Tat ton lives south of Acton wilh husband Jack and they have three boys Bert has four brothers and three sisters and Freda three brothers and Iwo sisters Came here Some of those who came the farthest for tht party were Mr and Mrs Doug Grande Prairie Mr and Mrs Don Menard Winnipeg Mr and Mrs carnations and baby breath and wore a silver pin of her late maternal grand molher Mrs David halt The bride made her gown and headpiece The brides sister Mrs was of honor and brides maids were Cathy Ellis sisler of bride and Joan Bister of Ihe groom Miss Jody Izatt cousin of the bride was flower girl and Phillip Van Manen was ring bearer The girls wore flowered Jersey empire styled dresses with round necklines and short puff sleeves The maid of honor wore coral and the other girls wore green They carried colonial bouquets of white and yellow daisies and Sonja roses The flower girl carried a
