OUR READERS VVRITE St John Baptist attendance up annua reports show I believe that there might be some of your readers who would be interested in the work that St John Ambulance Brigade has done during the year of In January 1976 our strength was 17 During the year we had five members resign but we were only able to make a slow recovery as we had two new members join the Division On December 1976 our strength is 14 St John regulations require that the strength of a Division should be between and members can see thai we are on the edge of existence During the year our members attended duties break down by area Milton Acton 16 and outside the towns To attend these functions the member donated 1B42 hours of voluntary unpaid time Quick calculations will show that this is an aver age of hours per member per year In actual the hours ranged from a low of 12 hours to a high of hours During those hours we attended to cases that ranged from slivers or minor cuts to an epileptic fit or heart attack Again by simple calculations you will see that there were 5Vj cases per duty or you could say that we treated one case every six hours When I look at the financial statement 1 do have to be thankful for those orgamza tions that dtd make donations to St John Ambulance to the tune of A special thank you to Courlchffe Park who donated and to the Ontario Steam and Antique Preservers Association who donated Everyone is aware that the cost of every thing is going up This is true with First Aid supplies and all of our operating expenses First Aid Is a useful skill and handy knowledge to have In your repertoire A Workmans Compensation Board report in ld74 stated that we have eight accidents in the home for every one on the job Yet those trained In First Aid have one third fewer accidents This past year we trained in Standard First Aid in Emergency First Aid and eight in Patient Care In the Home It Is difficult to predict when an accident will happen I trust that IfSt John members are not present one of the above will be around and come forward to help No Milton Combined Division invites all those who would like to join an organiza tion that has been around since time began We offer the chance to enlarge your skills and to give all the confidence to react in times of need to help humanity We meet every second and fourth Wednesday of the month at m For those organizations who would like us to attend your functions be reminded that we have to be invited to be there All that we ask is that we receive a written request not later than two weeks prior to the requested date Since our members are volunteers we must solicit for the coverage therefore 1 cannot promise that wc will always be able to make it On behalf of St John Ambulance in Milton I would like to wish all a very safe and healthy year Yours truly S Blair Beemer Superintendent Hospital sends its thanks The Activity Group of the Acton branch of the Canadian Cancer Society again sent a large
