and Gary were on hand for the presenta tion 61 North Haton Cubs weekend at Glen Haffy by Terry Culler Good weather for camping You Bet what Clubs of the North District said when they off for a weekend at the Glen Conservation area This was the annual Cub camp for boys their final year in Cubs The purpose of the camp being to teach the Cubs basic skills and to introduce them to scout camping in general The Cubs were assigned to patrols made up from various Packs from the trict to give them the tunily of meeting new friends Bach patrol cooked its own meals on Coleman stoves and of course did their own washing up Instructions in ship knife handling and fire laying were given by Rob and David Hannah of the Georgetown Crew John a forest technician visited the camp and spoke to the boys about forest ires Later they went on a hike during which they identified many of the trees in the park Saturday evening Fred Giles of the 2nd Georgetown Pack showed the Cubs how to make a fishing pole from basic and inexpensive mater Another week ends and with it ends a week of mental and physical endurance Lust Friday our school was proud to host the Hal ton Junior Track and Field meet This meet involved many schools We had great par licipation from all who were involved and were rewarded by placing second On Wednesday June 1 the Relay meet took place here and we placed fourth On Tuesday May Ihe Senior Track and Field Meet took place at the E school Milton litre we were able to place third In all it was a good week for and thanks to Mr Boycott and Mr who involved in the coaching Ihe teams and setting up- the track meet held at our school Last Monday a group of science fair winners enjoyed an educational trip to the Toronto Science Centre The grade sevens will be going on a camping trip to Midland on June and 10 There are places of interest set up to be seen by the students With the graduation quickly approaching the grade eights have already started on the decorations and other required arrangements The this year will be a Rose Garden The grade classes visited the high school Monday June G for an orientation period The kindergarten classes had Orientation Day for new pupils starting school in September Mothers were treated to lemonade cookies and a slidediscussion with Mrs Kathy and Mr in the library Displays of gomes projects charts and crafts were on dis play to show parents some programme activities The new pupils enjoyed a film- strip song playccntrcs and crafts in the kindergarten The caber They then had the tunity to try their luck Unfortunately Ihe fish werent biting A campfire program was planned as usual but the weather Interfered which sent everyone scurrying for he Iter from a down pour As It was already late and most were tired from he days activities It didnt take too long before the camp set tled down for the night Sunday morning dawned bright and clear and after breakfast some of the boys and leaders set off to attend mass at a nearby church while the remainder caper paled in a Scouts Own ser vice under the direction of Mrs Jean Layman of the 1st Gerogctown Cub Pack Quartermasters for the weekend were Mrs Elaine Hannah 1st Limehouse Mr Steve Thompson District Service Team and David Hannah 5th Georgetown Hover Crew Murray Harrison District Commissioner was a wcl come guest for part of the weekend and took part many of the activities chiefly with the Scouts Own service and the flag ceremonies Leaders attending were Silver medallions for all children and grants of up to 5000 each to encourage municipalities to hold
