last grade 8 graduation M Z Bennett will ever have and we tried to make it something special The decorations were quite lovely All around the auditorium were red and pink rose bushes and trellises along with yellow wisteria trees Around the doors en tenng the gymnasium were rose arbors decorated with red and yellow roses Coloured brick crepe paper around the walls rose and candle centrepieces pink and red streamers hanging low from the ceiling and a large silver moon and stars set off the room s atmosphere to perfection Our delicious dinner was catered to by Catering Service Next the graduation excr took place certificates given out and after the presentation of various awards our guest speaker high school principal Dean gave an enthusiastic speech The valedictorian Mary Kekic Registration for the first summer session will be tonight Wednesday June from 7 to Diving Two of Actons divers have been busy this past week Allen at tended a diving camp in Woodstock and had the op portunity to dive with Ken Armstrong one of Canada s top international divers Brad Jenkinson attended the Ontario South Western Regional Games in Windsor over the weekend and came home with a silver and gold medal Congratulations Brad Later on in July Brad and SuTJinne Pendergast will be attending Woodstock diving camp Synchronized Swimming The synchro swimming year finished on Wednesday June with a parents dis play The girls made up most of their own routines to show mom and dad and they were very well done Also included in the program were demonstrations of all four Acton team routines a top Acton duet by Cathy Ashley and Liz Cooper and a diving demonstration by Brad This year was hectic but quite productive and Acton is producing some good swimmers This was made possible with the help of volunteers who gave me much assistance Thank you Helen Hoerlng Pauline Leslie and Anne Pickering was inlroduced by Elizabeth Lynch and then displayed to the crowd A dance followed with music provided by Discus which added a special touch to the evening as both the disc Jockeys ore graduates of M Z Bennett school themselves It had been my pleasure to act as Master of Ceremonies for the graduation exercises A special thanks goes to Rick Lambert of the Audio- Visual Department of the Ilalton Board of Education and Miss Gail who both worked many hours preparing the slide and tape presentation Also thanks goes to Mrs Baker Mrs and all the students who worked long and hard to prepare the decorations for that evening These were the main people who helped to make this last graduation something to be proud of and for the graduates it was an evening we will remember for the rest of our lives I have enjoyed my year as a reporter for the M Z Bennett News bringing you events
