officer Jack Harold Alger had been In ill health for some time He lived in Guelph He was bom in London Eng land in and was the son of Mr and Mrs Thomas Alger In 1906 he came to Canada Mr Alger attended schools In Acton before getting married In Winnipeg in 1926 He is retired from the Corr ectional Centre where he was a Lieutenant Mr Alger was predeceased by his parents and wife He is survived by a i brother William Niagara On the Lake and sisters Catherine Mrs Prank Williams Tor onto and WInnlfred Mrs Johnston Stroud Mr Alger Joined the Lome Scots In 1939 and served In the Eighth Army In Italy and North Africa He was honor ably discharged in 1945 with the rank of Warrant Officer I Regimental He earned and was Issued the following medals the Bronze Star The Bronze Star Italy The Bronze Star France and Ger many King George VI Stiver medal King George VI silver medal with Oak Leaf Can Voluntary silver medal The Lome Scots Medal King George V and Queen Mary silver medal was Issued to him commemorating the occasion when he was one of five Canadians chosen for Honor Guard to their Maj esties The following Distinguished Service Dispatch was treasured by Mr Alger By the Kings order the name of Warrant Officer I Jack Harold Alger Royal Canadian Army Service Corps was published in the London Gazette on April 1946 as mentioned in a dis patch for Distinguished ser vice I
