get lost in such a muddle Perhaps ft because hey do have to go to Georgetown on business We don Continued from page 1 entire orientation has been to Guelph not to Georgetown so how the heck can we make system work when it make sense It s beyond me how our councillors can Women guards at prison Dear Sir Some three months ago 1 learned hat the all mile prison being built would be staffed by guards of whom one- third of the force would be women Being concerned I phoned a producer of a talk show at CHIC radio Brampton to June Callwootl of CRC In Touch suggesting that this 1 be a good topic for their programs I still believe It would be good topic especially since our Julian Ret it has discussed the matter In House with Correctional Services Minister I did not find Mr Drea explanations I both question and his statements Equating female prison guards with Nightingale women doctors and todays nurses is in insult to female doctors and female nurses I have a sister and a daughter who are nurses and nurses are taught to respect the privacy of patients whenever possible Furthermore they administer to the sick Male prison inmates are not physically sick Inmates who are mentallj sick should be in the tare of competent medically trained people Many prison inmates are social Humiliating them by being supervised by female guards whilst performing bodily functions will only make them more social Inevitably female guards will be taken as hostages and the outcome could be disastrous I wonder what Mr Drea will say then I question what type of woman would want to be a guard in an ail male prison One of the whipandjaek bootsefOra woman so pcrate for work she will take anything Mr claims women guards have cleaned up the prison language Would he have us believe the prisoners are now using such expletives as Fuddle and Oh Shoot I don believe it not for one minute Mr Drea would h us believe that women guards have had the so mo effect as barmaids in beverage rooms I don t know where Mr does his drinking but I have yet to be followed to the washroom by a barmaid in a beverage room I am a firm believer in equality for women and in progress but this step Is not equality It is not unisex it Is a retrograde step into a sexless society William A Johnson Obituary Ethel Thompson wellknown The Acton Free Press Wednesday Nov 1977 Bd of E OKs school Halton Board of Education The board
