Atoms over Waterloo to advance in playoffs The Acton Free Press Wednesday Mar 1978 B3 An overtime marker from Gord Mitchell gave Acton minor atomsa 1 win over Waterloo ana a two game sweep of their league playoff series In a game played last Tuesday at the arena The atoms had won the first game of the series 43 the night before In Waterloo Manager Jim Mitchell des cribed Tuesday overtime win as the best game the atoms have played all season It was a good team effort and a solid 30 minutes of hockey played by Acton One highlight of the game he said was a penalty shot which was awarded to Water loo and stopped by Acton net tender Mike Ormsby Waterloo went ahead In the first period and held the lead until the third when Kevin Lobslnger connected from Brad Demon and Steven Wagner Mitchell a overtime winner was assisted by Clin ton McMillan and Randy Brent Connor was in nets for the first game win and played an excellent game according to coach Jim Warren All three Waterloo goals came in the first period but Connor stayed steady and held them scoreless In the final two frames Acton only goal of the first period came from the stick John Lloyd with assists going to Mitchell and Kevin Christ A second period goal bv Wogner and a pair of third frame markers from Demons and Gary MacEachem gave Acton the win Demons Mac and Lob- singer picked up assists in the last two periods Only one penalty was called in the game but It spelled dis aster for the Waterloo atoms as It resulted In Mac last minute win THE WINNERS Judy Elston s rink from North Bay won the Acton Business girls trophy at the annual Business Girls Saturday at the Curling Club Three Acton players spared on the rink Skip was Nicole CampbeU vice second Dorothy Few and lead Judy Elston Hewitt presented the trophy Curling Club results With the curling season coming quickly to a close some rinks are edging out ahead of the pack as possible leaders that may be difficult to catch Monday 9 Sherry Few rink of Pearl Baker Gord Chapman and Jean Lumbers has yet to lose a game They remain the current leaders with six wins Monday Three rinks here are in very close combat for top spot The skips are Roger Wilson Carl and Bill All rinks have four v ins but Roger rink of Ina Mellon Ken and Linda Hignett has a slight lead They also have a tie added to their four wins Tuesday TO Brian Moore rink of Joyce Ray St and Carol Korpela has not lost a game to date They are definitely in the lead with eight good wins Tuesday With four wins and a tie to their credit Ben Win grove r nk of Keith and
