of Jen Thompson who is a charter member of the Arts and Crafts of Georgetown and who has missed only two meetings since the group s inception In 1942 The guest speaker was one of the group own members Audrey Deere who gave an illustrated talk on the Tapestry which she had visited last fall in its tern controlled glass cased viewing room In the Cathedral own of Bayeux Normandy France The tapestry is actually a piece of embroidered linen cloth measuring ft by inches portraying in design the historical events leading up to and the actual battle for the conquest or England by William Duke of Normandy in 1066 It has never been established who actually made the tapestry but it is known to have been in existence since only after the battle of Hastings when It was first displayed by being hung round the pillars of the nave of Cathedral on Its day of consecration Even after years the colors of the wool threads of the embroidery remain glowing and vibrant and throughout its entire length
