Beer and VICE PINCIPAL Carl Hymers presents Kitty Edge with her grade eight graduation diploma from Smith Kitty was one of 180 graduates from the school It was an emotional scene for 180 graduates and teachers at McKenzie- s first graduation ceremonies held on Tuesday June The Legion was decorated with foil paper stars and clouds with the name of each student graduating Paper plaques Identifying the dif awards to be presented covered the walls of the holt Gary principal of tho school expressed the emotions of many when he recalled Iht first day of school where pupils from Robert little and Bennett joined forces to form the Irst graduating class of Smith pictures were taken at MchinzicSmllh school to start off Students and teachers then gathered at the Legion where they enjoyed a delicious cold dinner buffet Grace was led by Dave Allen Parents arrived at the Legion for the graduation teremonks and were corned by master of Graduation certificates were awarded to students by principal Gary and viceprincipal Carl Gifts were presented to the schools namesakes Pat and to Mrs Vivian Beer on behalf of the late Flmer Smith The intermediate public speaking award was presented to Steve Sacon by Wen 3 represcnlatie Ed Steve won the school competition and went on to win the North finals and eventually to compete in the Optimists Central Ontario finals Presentation of the McKenzieSmith male and female sportsmanship award were made by Dave Boycott and Jeff ftecelpienb of these awards were Kelly White and Hob School rms wcrt pre by the I 0 E for the most academically Improved boy and girl Representative Lucille Cooksley awarded the ring to Robin Hansen for the most improved girl and Greg Mnltby the most Improved boy The Legion Auxiliary award for the student with the highest mark was presented by Ann to Rodriguez had an average of per cent School letters were presented by Gary Dawkins and Carl The students honored with their large M were Paul Carter Chad Crooks Mark Duval Tim Jock Garton Sue Kinal Paul Nolan Yves Savard Tony Saxon Tony Shephard Heather Thatcher and Kelly White Best all round boy and girl student received the McKenzieSmith bursary Sue Kinal and Paul Nolan were presented with the bursary by Mrs Deer and Pat McKenzie After the presentations had been completed parents and guests were entertained by the graduating choir singing Goodbye Girl and Danielle McKenzleSmith students also provided the background music for the songs Valedictorian spoke to class mates recalling the initial steps of joining the two schools and many of the good times that came out of it The school took port in sports both at home against other schools the public speaking competition seed selling to raise money for graduation a trip to Ottawa and the
