come to a decision on the hydro corridor through Hallon Hills sometime this month said Bob Williamson staff member of the NEB in a telephone Interview from Ottawa Tuesday He explained an application had been received from and Walter Scott on behalf of the Citizens Group ICG in January but the board asked for more evidence At that time the NEB notified Ontario Hydro of the application which in turn submitted a counter application The ICG hen submitted more evidence All of this moss of information is by the NEB but no decision has been reached said Williamson The ICG claiming the line is an international one but the board has not had that clearly established said Williamson He emphasized the NEB has first to decide if they have the legal authority to rule on the matter In spite of the possibility of a negative decision on the corridor Ontario Hydro ore going ahead con of towers through Hallon Hills to link up with portions of the corridor constructed from the Bruce nuclear station to the borders of Hal ton Hills Land negotiations between farmers and Ontario Hydro have not all been settled but Hydro won the right to legally enter the land after an OMB hearing decided in the corporation s favor The ICG appealed to the National Energy Board over the corridor claiming it is being constructed to provide power to the United States and no export licence had been received from the federal government Ontario Hydro admits power is being sold to the US but claims it is surplus electricity Ontario does not require The corporation claims it is losing millions of dollars because power is bottled up at the Bruce nuclear station and costly oil and coal fired generators must be used instead of the cheaper nuclear power The ICG argues that the corridor is not justified because Ontario Hydro is overbuilt and the province has more than enough power to meet its needs The citizens group also charges their civil rights have been circumvented by Haton improving emergency steps fairly I m thankful we can all avoid a strike In an earlier vote tea delivered a per cent strike mandate to their OSSTF repres entatives If the two parties can settle I think it is heal thier for process will be slreng with the review of provincial legislation covering such matters that is underway One of the trustees absent for the vote was Burlington Fred Arm itage who earlier was critical of teachers expectations for retire ment gratuity Mr Arm is one of those trustees who believes the gratuity has outlived its usefulness He stressed that If the board was to finance retirement properly
