asked how a res ponsible government could bring in half a bud get the part that hurts consumers and business tnrough higher taxes on liquor cigarettes and corporate taxes but does nothing to reduce government spending says that in light of the fact the tax hikes Finance Minister Allan MacEachean ought are identical to the penny as those pro posed in the previous Conservative govern ment budget he ob viously agrees with the increases However he finds fault with the mini budget since it doesn I cut government spend ing The only tax hike the Liberals didnt bring last week was the IB cent a gallon gas excise tax It would be if and his Tory colleagues felt vindicated by the Grits mini budget since it is so similar to the Conservative budget but all he really feels Is con about the direction the Liberals are taking the economy He is worried about the projected billion in crease in the deficit that the Liberals are now say they expect Jelinek notes Ihe Tory plan would have reduced the deficit by billion this year Its another Liberal flipflop on their election promises the Con servo live Corporate Affairs critic says MP pointed to the Liberal election pledge not to allow
