BUSINESSACCOUNTING OFFICE Office Manager Phono hoi I Shlrlay PatKntno Davis taxes oil price hikes so can live with new deal For several years now ano Premier William Davis has been backing Prime Mint ster Pierre in decry ing high energy costs and Alberta grab for mega petro dollars However last week when and Alberta first mint ster Peter inked the new oil agreement which could more than double the price eon sumers pay to fill their tanks and heat their homes over the next five years Davis said he could live with the pact What changed his stance on soaring energy costs Well two things First Davis and his Pro Conservatives romped back to power earlier this year with a strong majority Then the brought down a budget loaded with bad news for taxpayers their typical post majority government election economic pronouncement In that budget the govern ment abandoned any pretext of concern about spiralling In flation in this province and the rest of Canada The Conservatives put in a tax measure which on certain commodities including gas re suits in fresh revenue for the Ontario treasury every tune there is a price hike The Conservatives are taxing in and the oil agreement will certainly bring lots and lots of price increases to be taxed No wonder Davis can live with the oil pact Our readers write Cancer thanks Fox runners Dear Terry Hun Volunteers The Branch of Ihe Canadian of all ages and by meeting the needs of people in any way we can In the past the clergy have exchanged pulpits or one Sunday during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in January Also we were to help the churches Join together two years ago to sponsor a Boat Family W try to share re sponsibilities for community tunc tions where a minister may be needed These are little things but they are done in a spirit of cooper which we hope demonstrates to the community that wo do each other churches As Christians we have been given the privilege and task of making God love believable in our town
