community activity Their annual skate- is coming up on April 10 and students are already out door knocking trying to help the community In some way or another The schools receive half of the money raised and the Rotary gets the other half But their share of the funds go back Into the community That a great deal Last year I went to take pictures at the event and ended up skating for the first lime in over 14 years and raising over 45 for the cause Exchange students Jodie McFarlane Alanna Bowen and Stephen Sojka held me up I told everyone to watch for me next year Unfortunately maybe fortunately I can t make it this year as I will be on my way home from Myrtle Beach South Carolina Kevin will probably appreciate that It was his used last year Birthday greetings go out to Marguerite Taylor whose big day was Saturday She would disown me If I revealed age but she prefers people to think she is Last month I pent a half hour sobbing as comrades at the MASH said goodbye to each other The other two hours I patiently waited for the tears to come watched it again the other day we taped It for posterity and sure enough I was teased by neighbor Bert for turning on the waterworks again But in the three weeks or so since it was originally aired there have been two interesting statistics come forward I heard on the radio that in New York City in the half hour following the most highly watched television show in history some 10 million toilets were flushed This created a demand for an incredible six million gallons of water from the city system and seconds later forced another six million back into the system creating an surge Thought you might be interested in knowing that And another bit of trivia about the final episode of MASH that you just cant wait to hear is when the program started at Ontario Hydro recorded an increase by 000 kilowatts equal to about GO television sets Throughout the hour episode there was a pattern of small spurts and drops in energy demand a press release said A Hydro spokesman said the changes could be caused by viewers turning on lights and opening refrigerator doors during commercials Isn t that fascinating The same press release also stated that for the Winds of War the hour mini series In February Hydro recorded a power load pick up of 100 kilowatts equal about 300 television sets when the first of the seven installments of The Winds of War was aired by p m on Sunday February However the rest of the week showed no noticeable load pick up during the program s air ti mi- Monday heavy snow fall took everyone and every thing by surprise except me I got a call from Alice Pilkington last week telling me her were blooming in her garden And Alice Schreiber told me her tulips and crocuses were putting up a pretty good show for March But I guess the flowers got caught the same as the robins and other birds which had returned north for the summer I say I wain t surprised by the snowfall because I have been saying this entire mild winter we would get a dandy storm before It was safe to put away the old snow Urea In my more athletic days when I used to practically sleep with my skis on my feet I remember skiing In CoUingwood with only a spring Jacket on on May 10 It was the last day of skiing for the year and there was more mud than snow but the last snowfall had only come the week before And seven years ago one of the worst snowstorms I have ever driven in during my II years of going from this area to CoUingwood was Sunday April I remember It so clearly because Cord and I were being married the following Friday evening and I was I t live to see my wedding So despite the fact I got hopelessly stuck on Monday I surprised We had it coming
