Girls Basketball team ended in a hard fought battle for tba right to proceed to tbe Uriah It was a battle that saw tbe lead go back and forth all way to tbe finish but in the end Burlington Central managed to edge the local squad out of a place In the finals Although tbe season had to end so sud denly tbe team held heads high be cause of a successful and satisfying season The team had started their practices on September tbe second day of school with a group of 20 girls vying for a coveted spot on tbe Redmen team Two weeks after tbe first practice 12 were chosen and they were off to Collingwood for an annual tournament Although squad lost all three games there was a feeling throughout tbe whole team that the season would of a challenge and a possibility of a championship Tbe following weekend the Senior team and two members of the Junior squad travelled to for another tourna ment After losing first match the rallied to win the consolation and the feeling of achievement that went with winning At this point the Seniors felt this year was tbe year to win There were two more tournaments scheduled after the EUmira victory and then it was into league play After an exhibition game in Erin a rash of injuries began that was to plague the squad for the rest of the year Teresa Dunn the Most Valuable Player from the previous season dislocated her shoulder and was out of action for six weeks Although missing one of their top players the continued to fight this time against Georgetown in their final exhibition game The Seniors came up short in that game but bounced right back to defeat their former victors in their first league game The next match proved to be one of the hardest battles yet as the girls were over powered by Trafalgar In double overtime 37 It was after this match the Redmen found another top player had been injured This time a broken finger slowed the team With two members on the injured list Ac ton kept on rolling to rally against the odds and grab second place in the Hfllton East division Even midway through the season the continued their winning streak by taking top honors in their own tournament In the first matchup Acton easily defeated Arthur 3117 and then in second round action dribbled to a 2924 win over Erin The final match kept the crowd on tbe edge of their seats as Acton came from behind for a 3027 victory over Aldershot That triumph left the team feeling a real sense of accomplishment as it was the first time they had won their own tournament The Redmen second only to Trafalgar at the end of the season advanced to the quarter finals against Queen Eliza beth Park Defeating their opponents easily the Acton squad advanced to the semi finals against Burlington Centra Spirits soared for a week before they pitted themselves against their next op ponents and the girls practiced long and hard Every free moment was spent prepar ing for a win against Burlington Charettes take one win one loss In Major PeeWee action December 7 Charcttes Woodworking were at home as they blanked Gait Michael Brouwer opened the Acton scor ing early in the first period with assists from Sean Sears and Shawn At the end of the first period Acton struck again with a goal by Guest Guest by Sears and Dave Harrison and the final Acton goal was credited to Sears who was assisted by Guest and Tim John Bousfield was
