generally carry out snow removal operations because it make it easier for people to get In and out of cars to aid pedestrians or Just because the streets look a mess with big slush as most taxpayers seem to think No most times according to engineer Robert Austin snow removed until there s so much snow you cant park close to the curb and leave a travelling lane com unblocked He admits it totally a Judgment call In Acton the Ministry of Transportation and Communications takes care of plowing sanding and salting on Mill and Main streets or Highways and However the plow to the curb so the snow winds up in the gutter When there s so much snow a person cant park without impending traffic that when the snow is removed Austin explained It matter If It the pile of snow is four inches high of feet high he declared The problem is compounded by chants when they clean their walks those that do Austin said They throw the snow off the walk into the gutter Austin suggested possibly they think that amount of snow will prompt the Town to do snow removal work He says his department is more conscious of the needs of downtown In both urban areas than people think For instance when there was a storm few days before Christmas it was removed afterwards even though the now banks werent preventing parking or causing traffic to be impeded However Austin explained it was removed because stair knows how important the Christmas season business is to local merchants Austin recalled receiving two compll memory calls from merchants for this extra effort Snow removed from not only the downtowns but also designated other areas in accordance with Town policy In George town it taken to the old dump while In Acton works crews dispose of snow on Wallace St The plows the two highways in Acton because Acton happens to be the ter mination point for plow routes of two MTC districts Hamilton and Stratford The Town will do snow plowing sanding and salting on the two highways in town if the MTC got around to it but that t often Hal ton Hills Is totally responsible for snow removal on the highways Hills takes care of Highway in Georgetown and receives a per subsidy for plowing sanding and salting but only percent on snow removal The Town gets per cent subsidy on plowing sanding salting and snow removal on other Town streets and roads too Milton Carnival Come to the Milton Winter
