Knights of Columbus Saturday evening at a SI Patricks Dance They received framed certificates for out standing contribution to the organization for the past year The presentation was a surprise to the two men Well another March break has come and gone both the the schools and for editor bubby Gord As usual he returned from Florida with a terrific tan which makes pale me look even paler But his tan reminded me of the week following March break when I was In school yes another reminiscing story In my high school in Colllngwood three types of students return from a weeks vacation There were those who either stayed borne all day or worked but nevertheless still had the winter whites on their faces And there were those who could afford to go to Florida or even farther south and had a gorgeous tan which they always flaunted in gym class the white socks really made the brown skin stand out And then there were the skiers At first sight it was difficult to tell the travellers from the skiers until gym class You see spring skiing can give a tan Just as dark if not darker than Florida Unfortunately it Is only on your face I fell into the skiing category Eight hours a day of skiing for nine straight days made me look much healthier than normal And because I wore glasses my goggle marks were not as pronounced as those who had nothing to cover up the wh streaks across their faces Another drawback was that with a sweater on we looked funny because the tan only went to our chin So while we were wearing out our sweaters those who had been in Florida were wearing shortsleeved clothing to further rub it to the rest of us But we who had spent the week skiing and not lazing in the sun had lost a bit of had firmer and had much better stories to tell We also had a longer vacation because the only travel time Involved was the minute drive to the ski hills and back each day But this is 1984 not 1970 and I have neither the time money nor energy to go skiing anymore My Florida trips are confined to offseason months when I con stay at my parents mobile home for nothing sojust call me pale face Quilters preparing for 1984 fall fair contest GeorgetownActon Wednesday Mar 1964 5 The Acton
