The congregation of Johns Church Rockwood seeking funds to atsist them with res torn of the building Seek restoration funds for St Johns Church by Barbara Smiley If you have travelled through Rockwood In the last few months you will probably have noticed that St John Anglican which stands on the highest point of land in the village is much more accessible since many of the trees surrounding it have been removed Perhaps you have regretted the loss of those trees and wondered why they were felled Unfortunately many of them were rotten and the roots were undermining the church foundation Also they provided a jumping off point for squirrels and other small animals which do so much damage to roofs Theroofwasreptacedthreeyeflrsago at a cost of 10 so we need to preserve it There is a great deal of activity at St John these days since 1SS5 marks the centennial of the church By that time the small congregation Is hoping to have the restoration of the Interior and exterior well Pointing of the limestone painting and restoration of the soffit fascia and doors and landscaping of the grounds will be completed this summer with the help of an grant from the federal govern for labor A crew from the Ontario Correctional Institute in has already helped with the tree cutting and will do fur work on the grounds as soon as weather permits Because the church Is ouch a prominent local landmark a designated heritage building and a beautiful focal point for we have no hesitation in asking for financial help with this project The members of the congregation have given freely of their time talents and money and this is the first time any appeal has been made to the public Two very successful Open House days were held at the Academy in aid netting nearly Joseph who contributed his time and skill to the church restoration project died suddenly last November and is sadly missed by us all His last work is in the church motifs for the west window which had many cracked panes and was urgently In need of repair Joseph drew the designs for two centre panels which were beautifully executed in stained glass by Gordon Couling the wellknown artist as a gift to the church The restoration was com plctcd by Glass and the window was dedicated on March in memory of Joseph RCA The cross and rooster on the tower were also given by Joseph as were the steps from the church to the Parish Hall He loved St John s so do we and we are sure that feeling is shared by many people In the community who are proud of Canada heritage If you would like to help in this project donors of over will receive a receipt for income tax purposes Cheques should be made payable to St Johns Restoration Fund and sent to Robert King Treasurer Ash Road Eden Mills Ontario NOB IPO The light touch ALL YOUR Ralph Forgiveness We have heard this word many times We are told that we have to for give Jesus told Peter that we have to forgive an unlimited number of times We pray the Lord Prayer In it we ask God to forgive is as we forgive others Unfortunately would think that in most cases we do not forgive as Our Lord desires that we forgive The reason Is that to truly forgive someone who has wronged us demands a certain amount of humility We are asked to swallow our pride This isnt easy especially in our competitive society Yes we may make a gesture of for but what are we truly saying I would go so far to say that most people are forgiveness The reason is among other things we ore too proud to accept the life of Christ Into our own It Is going to cost us something to forgive and we dont want to give up anything Forgiveness demands a certain attitude an attitude that Just happen We can make gestures of forgiveness for others to see This Is a complete waste of time unless we allow Our Lord to touch our hearts and then we should not care how much Is asked of us to truly forgive Chimney fire Volunteer firefighters were called to a chimney fire on Highway West of Acton across from Caroline performance by how quickly a veh would scoot from 0 to 80 kmh And certainly that is one yardstick The man ages that nicely in an impertinent 71 seconds useful when a freeway I True performance however is measured in other ways For example between and the highoutput engine linked to a doseratio fivespeed gearbox provides an abundance of reserve power So when passing on the highway for instance the
