she said OBITUARIES Murray MacDonald became Detroit banker Claiming Acton Ontario as his birth place Murray Laird MacDonald passed away Detroit July at the age of 77 He was the son of Murray MtcDonald and Henrietta Laird and received Us early education in Acton Public and High Schools He was on the staff of the Merchanb Bank here located where Real Estate Office is now As a young man he left Tor Detroit and for years served on the staff of the Detroit Savings and Trust until his retirement Twenty four years ago he married Mary Talman and she with two sons Robert Murray and Kenneth Laird and four grandchildren survive together with two sisters Helen Mrs Bell of Toronto and Doris Mrs N Small of Niagara Falls He took an active Interest in many organizations and was President of Detroit Athletic Club and also of Golf Club at one lime His special interest was In the Michigan Cancer Society of which he was one of the group of founders and served on the board of trustees for some years A dinner was given in his honor and a plaque presented on his retirement for the valuable help and assistance he had given to this orgs nil at ion The funeral was held July In Detroit Later a memorial service was held in Presbyterian Church of which he had been an active member for many years It was attended by many friends and business associates Crewsons Corners native Kathleen Fryer Members of her family and friends will sadly former area resident Kathleen Emily Fryer who died July at her home the Fisher Nursing Home She was An avid card player Mrs Fryer farmed for many years an the Nassag- town line with her first husband ErrolSprowl She was bom Sept at Crewsons Corners and also lived in Guelph and Palm erst on Mrs Fryer was predeceased by both her husbands James Sprowl and Alfred Fryer and by brother John Dennis and sisters Margaret Burns Haze Knight and Edith Marshall She Is survived by son Harvey Errol Sprowl of Guelph and grandchild James Sprowl Rev Craig Crlbor conducted a funeral service July at the Shoemaker Funeral Home In Acton Interment followed at Cemetery where pallbearers were Mac and WUmer Davidson of Acton and Calvin Sprowl and John of John Stewart former Halton County warden Acton native John Stewart a retired farmer and real estate broker who once served as County warden died Aug in Burlington after a lengthy illness He was Born in Acton in 1901 to John and Nellie Stewart he attended Dublin Public School and Acton High School He lived in Acton and Guelph and spent the past eight years in Burlington Mr Stewart married Edna May McCutcheon May IB 1927 in Acton and worked as a farmer and a real estae broker He was a member of the Acton Fall Fair Board the Public Utilities Com mis Acton Town Council and County Council He was an elder of the United Church in Acton and Guelph and president of the District Real Estate Board Mr Stewart is survived by his wife a resident of Burlington sisters Alice Collard of Toronto Nellie Roberts of and Merle Humphries of London and sons Jack of Stroud Ontario and Barry of Concord California He had five grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren He will be sadly missed by his family Including Ray and Hazel Everdell of Port Hope Rev K Campbell of Burlington conducted a funeral service Aug 4 at the Shoemaker Funeral Home Interment followed at Cemetery where pall bearers were Bob Marshall and McPhal of Acton Ken Allan of Georgetown nephew A Roberts of Angus R of Toronto and T of Kingston Minnie Simpson was St Albans organist Minnie Simpson a longtime resident of the Acton area died at age at Guelph General Hospital July 20 Mrs Simpson who was an organist for several years at St Church In the 1930s and 40s was predeceased by her husband George in brothers Gilbert Ted George and Ralph Tripp and by her son Harold Simpson of Burlington Mrs Simpson was also predeceased by her sisters Mabel Dale of Toronto and Elizabeth McMurdy of Born in Kenington London England in to Mr and Mrs W Tripp Mrs Simpson came to Canada In She attended School and lived in before moving Acton She married George Simpson Feb 1921 Mrs daughter Helen Bit tori of Act on son Lome Simpson Burlington and five
