Citizen who helped police control crowd is assaulted An Acton man who prefers to remain anonymous came to the rescue of Regional Police constables Saturday night when a crowd became unruly Staff Sgt Roy Smith of the Halton Regional Police said police responded to a fight on Willow and Mill Sts at The constables asked the fighters to leave but a Mam St man refused continuing to argue with the policemen A crowd gathered converg ing on the police when they tried to put the man into a patrol car Smith said The Acton citizen then came to the aid of the policemen but he was assaulted As the con The girts were judged on poise per sonohty ability to talk in front of people and ability lo get along with others which was all determined from a three minute in dividual interview Laura had to walk on stage and say her name in front of approximately people for the part of the pageant She then returned to the stage and a brief biography she wrote for herself was read aloud The seven semi finalists were chosen Wed evening after the girls put on long dresses Once a girl has competed for the CNE Queen of the Fairs title she can t compete again so Laura said she is not going to enter the Acton Fall Fair beauty contest this year She will be attending Sheridan College in in the fall to take a secretarial course and will see if she is eligible for any beauty contests in that area she
