IN THE MAIL Wants Georgetown Strie in Parliament Queen Street Mr Editor The continuing stalemate be Smith and Stone and its employees seems to need rough airing in a of public debate To a mildly in crested observer It has become abundantly clear thit this dis pute no longer has the of a bona manage labour dispute The question arises why l this question been ral led on the floor of the legislature Jim Snow represents all the people this riding at Queens Park and this includes the striking employees of Smith Stone pas our local ever visited the stroke headquarters Hi Street If not why not Does labours view not count the matter No one disputes the right of company to phase out lines of products yluch or maj not be by virtue of mar incompetence rather than mirkct conditions The of companies heir employees into action in order lo furnish soldiers of fortune with lo clobber the working man Is proper for bile debate The charge that labour Is out to destroy the economy has an ancient history It was led against the slaves upon whose backs the Roman flourished Today not need lo stoop to the level of intellectual bankruptcy even attempt lo refute these charges Yours truly Johnston St Andrew United Church A long time ago a certain wise man wrote Like rows in the hands of a warrior are the sons of ones youth Happy is the man with a quiver full of them There are people today who would take Issue wilh that statement They would say that large families are more of a liability than a blessing And there may a good case for that on in over populated world When we speak of God to a young boy whose fathi has deserted ihe family or whose parents are divorced when we speak of God as a loving father the boy is likely got a pretty poor impress on of what God is like It be most difficult then when confronted with a fatherless boy convey to the image of God as a father is truly interested in and who loves him The world is full of boys many without mothers as well For some of us It is fairly easy to adopt a child under the Foster Parent Plan or through some other agency and to spend a money for all his support It is quite another mailer when we cons der supporting a child in our own community supporting by personal contact and involvement There fatherless boys In our own area who need some mature man to give them love and companionship And one of the channels through this may be done is the Big Brothers of Canada As These men act as elder brothers to fatherless boys They don attempt to take place of but they are pledged to g ve male as well as moral and hopefully Christian dance and direction to the Little Brother What prompts a man to become Big Brother There are many reasons perhaps he has no son of hn and a Little Brother can this need in life Or because he does have a son of his own and Is so grateful for th blessing he wants to bring some measure of happiness to a boy who has no dad of Ins own Or perhaps he simply loves kids In these days when there is much talk about gen gap and when parents are wringing the hands in despair because youth gong to pot it is good to know that there are men who apparently have not heard of these R cullies because they are going ahead com with youth and f them to be wonderful people There still appears be a great deal of happiness or blessedness In not necessarily money but of self This love and concern for a child is clearly seen in the life and leaching of Jesus and surely this world cant be totally bad while there are men about who ere trying to follow hn way one manner or another Group
