Tiedye 1 Spark your Interest This art farm certainly caught the eye of Mary Lou Brock Is the programme chairman of Social and Educational programmes for the Mary Lou saw the demon of batik at the Rug Hooking and Hobby Show Perhaps you saw It too Batik Is the process of creating a design on material and painting with wax the areas not to be coloured Then the piece is dyed and finally the wax is removed This process is repeated two or three times for a simple design perhaps as many as twenty or thirty times for a complicated design Each time a different colour is used the area not to be coloured is protected with wax while the dying takes place TRICKS As well as teaching this timeconsuming process the class will Team some of the tricks of tiedye Ticdye uses the same idea but simplifies it considerably by omitting the waxing and using different methods of knotting or folding the materia lo create the pat tern The instructor for this new course will be Jane Dams a Terra Cotta artist Jane has been working with oils for some time She won the Canadian National Mural Award two years ago She also won he art Award at Collegiate and she has a painting hanging in that school Jane discovered Batik about two years ago and her own enthusiasm for this art is bound to rub off on her students She enjoys creating wallhangings but the adaptability of balik Is proven by her plans to do a skirt in velveteen Her designs are simple abstract shapes the colours bold SUPPLIED The Y course will provide ten weeks of in st ruction hours each week It will be held at Cedar vale Tuesday
