Seeking BHS Grads Living in Georgetown Clergy Comment A high school reunion is planned as part of Brampton a flower festival weekend this year Already a couple of meetings have been held the last attended by some 45 former students representing different years attendance at what was Brampton only high school until 1961 It has been part Sheridan College since 1967 Rapid growth phased It out of exist Mice and Brampton area now has two new schools and another about to open within town limits as well as outlying schools like ana Mnyrield serving students who one time would have been attending school In Brampton Committees have been set up to plan the event Publicity is being handled by Ted Seaborn Jim Calvert and Carl Crawford all of Brampton Program is In charge of Mrs J A and Tom Allison Calcdon bast and Mrs Albert Dunn Brampton The committee is anxious to obtain as complete a mailing list as possible and asks former students to write the reunion that the writer mention the year he Service Annual Congregational Meeting Comfort Spare This coming February an all day study seminar will be held here j our community on the problem of addiction both alcohol and drug addiction It Is primarily intended for the clergy and others whose Job it Is to work with people under tension and in distress as well as with young people who are frustrated and seek some form of life fulfilment However anyone else who Is interested In these matters Is also welcome to attend It will be held in the Christian Reformed Church on the line sponsored by the Georgetown District Ministerial Association and conducted by personnel of the Ontario Addiction Research Foundation a government agency The necessity of such a seminar was felt because It becomes more and more apparent that we live in an addictive society Recently the newspapers published a comment of the Minister of Health that it may be necessary to reslrict even our physicians and druggists in making comfort chemicals available to people since the abuse or these crutches seem to reach staggering and dangerous proportions And then we do not even speak as yet about the misuse of alcoholic beverages and the illegal and often tragic and addiction involving marijuana amphetamines LSD and heroin especially by young people who see no longer sense in what he established society may call normal living Living in Ihis age I am painfully aware of this distressing situation and interested to help and participate In ways and means to find a way out of this mental and moral morass I believe that It Is by the mercy of God that He gives man the courage never to lay down In defeat but to rise up again and again to search for ways and means to help those who seem unable to help themselves getting up and stand again under the weight of what may often seem a useless existence We who are able to extend a helping hand to the wrestlers with the troubled sea let us do all we can for them And that is exactly why I am also interested In that coming seminar I hope and expect It to be helpful for people who work In human relations NOT THE WHOLE SOLUTION However 1 believe at the same time that these ways and means are In themselves not the whole and the real solution They ore in themselves nothing more than tools to work with and sometimes crutches to lean on Asamlnlstcrof the Good News about Jesus Christ I have more to Offer than just that believe that these ways and means will only receive their full effect when they may help people to come to Jesus Christ as their Life and Lord Alter all He said I am the Way and the Truth and the Life when I have come to experience and believe this I may not keep It is neither may any real christian from my fellow men In need All in themselves good things like drugs lead us into depressions and disasters when they become our sole comfort But it is the very nature of man to be dependent on the other and our greatest problem is that we constantly want to deny this However we cannot just and only depend on each other cither That is like the blind leading the blind The Bible tells us that God came to our rescue God the only Independent and the source and fountain of all good In Jesus Christ He claims to be the Life for you and me and that what the Bible really is all about This discovery is made In increasing numbers by students and other young people in our time Every lime you hear it I found Jesus Christ through reading the Bible and I gave my life to Him and I experience that He gives His new Life tome So many have turned from drugs to Jesus IT IS CHURCH TASK And it Is the task of the Christian Church and the Christian people show and to lead others who seek for a new life to Him As It has been already centuries ago been expressed in one of most beautiful confessions of the Christian faith a creed of German origin What is your only comfort in life and In death That I belong body and soul in life and in death not to myself but to my faithful Saviour Jesus Christ who at the cost of his own has fully paid for alt my sins and has completely freed me from the dominion of the evil one that he protects me so well that without he will or my heavenly Father not a hair can fall from my head indeed that everything must fit his purpose for my salvation Therefore by His Holy Spirit he also assures me of the real life and makes mi wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him That is the full life to which the Christian Church and the Christian people must seek to lead their fellowmen Vegetables IGA Jams ISmIRrD
