the age limit being the way it is in the East junior and senior football leagues a boy can go through high school playing five years of junior ball but no senior If a player is years of age on September 1 he is eligible to play junior football and many students are or 17 years old when they graduate With accelerated classes and after September 1 the junior teams had no trouble attracting plenty of players this ear but some of the senior teams are rather sparse Fred senior couch at Georgetown District High had players turn out for his team while there were 110 trying out for the junior team IOWER is one of many coaches who would like to see the age limit lowered by at least Quebec Coach Nelson Barber Manager Wayne Keith James Scott Wilson Mark Blake Dixon Frank David Stephen Rye Brock Street Stephen Kcslick David Iteming Terry one year for next seasons football season George Hill the Georgetown junior coath agrees with Kolnnl He says The players dont improve that much if theyre always playing in Ihe same age group A kid can play four years ana be in grade 12 and he plays against a kid in grade nine Its crazy He feels that if the age limit was lowered the younger players would be given a better chance to develop and the boys who move up to senior ball would Improve by playing against people in an older age bracket NOT GOOD The way it is now says Kotani youve got 13 and 14- yearolds playing against 17 year olds League convener Maris Polls admits that the seniors are slim In this year The trouble last year was that they tried to push the age drop through in alt sports and that just isnt good Polls does feel an age change is due in football however and it promises to be a prime Issue when the coaches get together at the end of the season to discuss the situation The vote to change the age limit was close last year and Pol feels it pass this year OTHER VIEW There arc other views to this issue however and reasoning behind them Is every bit us logical as the previous Gary Turn bull junior co- coach Oakville Trafalgar High School says that If age was lowered juniors hat would be affected would miss a year of ball when they go to senior because they arent good enough NOT PROGRESSING However Junior Rebel coach George Hill soys If a guy can El ay two years of junior ball good enough play who plays junior ball for three four and even five years Is simply reading water and not really progressing in his ability Kotani also feels that the age difference between grade nine student playing against a grade 12 student In junior ball Is more likely to cause injury TEAM STANDINGS Mountaineers Country Gals Hippies Drunken Drivers Jet Set Coffee Breakers Maple Leafs Happy Gang Astronauts Misfits Beginners HIGH AVERAGES Charlene Mac Cor mack Shirley
