paths and steps and budding bushes behind the great library overlooking he Ottawa River ANYBODY CARP How am I doing he ponders I have never worked so hard in all my life as during these last three months But is it making any difference Is my Party or Parliament any belter for my efforts Am adequately representing the people back home Should be doing more work in the Riding and less In Ottawa Or the other way around Does anybody really care Or is all this just an ego trip The great Inconstant of Parliament Hill the Memberof Parliament Very few have ever found the formula for ensuring con electoral as well as legislative success If one spends all of his time in Ottawa working at the national level he may not be reelected continue with this work And if he spends oil of his time In the Riding what good is he to the country One Member was reelected for straight years yet he never once said a word in the House of Commons I doubt that this is a responsible approach STICK WITH TIIFM One must chose a few major priorities involving a mixture of both national and home affairs and then delve into and stick with them But this process of finding and maintaining a delicate balance between the sometimes competing in ercsts of constituents Parliament all Canadians arty and of course self and family is a difficult one One Member of Parliament the Member for Ha I ton will be home for the next couple of weeks travelling around the Riding asking his constituents for their views and perhaps some help with the answers to some of the above questions THINGS GO ON Meanwhile the politicians goon huffing and puffing the civil servants go on building empires and the crocuses go on growing in the Spring Maybe the constancy and The chairman or each committee has been chosen for the
