people In crisis situations and offer help on two levels first as a referral to ihe appropriate Individuals organizations and agencies prepared to assist In specific areas and secondly by being a telephone friend listening and responding to the needs of the caller Two Important requirements for the centre to become a reality are one volunteers Tor telephone duly who will be asked participate in a nine week training course two financial assistance to launch the telephone service Initially an amount of si DOO is needed and an annual Income of would maintain the service The Contact Centre will be a no I national service as a listening post and referral station staffed by trained volunteers prepared to help deal with people of all ages assisting with possible solutions for problems ranging from loneliness marital parental alcohol drug or emotional distress A resource file containing general in formation In respect recreation groups and organizations connected with community Interests will also be available to the caller The course will touch on all above topics under the direction of Rev Peter Barrow and Rev Walter Ridley Also with the aid of qualified speakers an insight to these many problems will be realized The first course In progress Is being held on Tuesday evenings in The Harrison Public School library from to second course beginning Thursday Oct at the
