Georgetown Lions but not so many people realize that the Lions have a younger brother the Lew They were formed In October 1972 by Sam a member of the Georgetown Lions at the suggestion of Al McQueen the local youth officer The organization was designed to aid in community projects like the Lions but Its members would be students The of Georgetown have already done much to organize several events in town They have canvassed for charities including selling of pumpkins and candles for the mentally retarded Stickers were sold far the Cancer Society Send a Mouse to College and was raised for cancer research In March Ihe had a very successful beef raffle Congratulations to Mr Stan Duplets Is of Bolton who won 220 lbs of beef Proceeds helped to provide a motorized wheel chair for the Crippled Children Association Also In March the Leos sponsored a high school dance which turned out to be very successful Attendance was a little less than expected because many people bad left town for their winter vacation but nevertheless Ihe event produced a profit The Leos club la no ordinary club The members have a lot of fun during their meetings Every other week they have slightly formal meetings with games afterwards On the odd weeks that have what Is called a fun night where there Is Inquest Continued From Page 1 General Hospital and a pediatrician believed that an Intravenous hookup may have helped the young girl However he did not fault the doctors Involved Its very easy to look back and be wise he noted There is indication that an I V drip was needed but Dr Ashenhurst considered the discomfort of the child over how much benefit he felt it would do which Is good I feel that the child dd require Intravenous therapy be added As on emergency route for the diagnosis she was In a critical situation Axzopardl found fault with the drug which was prescribed by Alexander Ashenhurst the family physician to stop the wheezing In the baby Azxoparal believed the com bination of theophylline anil tobarbltal in the drug was not good for the child especially when was added I would have slopped ad ministering the to the baby immediately if vomiting occurred he explained The Is a potentially dangerous drug The margin of safety above the dosage recommended for children Is very small He told the court that the dangers of the drug were pointed out in 1999 when It was noted that the drug In sup pository form can be lethal In children He added that more recent books published this year did not recommend drug to children under five years old and that if given It should be administered by weight and not age With Gravol the doctor noted en under the age of eight years old in the texts published this year He added that large dosages can be dangerous It depresses the central nervous system and has caused convulsions he said While did not blame any one person because the drugs were used by numerous physicians who do not know of heir dangers he felt that perhaps could have con sulted another physician about the girls condition He explained that If he were consulted he would have per formed tests and probably started intravenous feedings based on the results I would try to correct the Imbalance of by giving proper fluids he added Also I would give cortisone to only a half hour of scheduled work leaving rest of night free to go swimming play pool ping pong and so on Working with the Leos is to work with a team During the Vanning stages of future they found it necessary at the beginning that everyone put in their two cents worth so that their events were thoroughly planned and there was no cause for misjudgement in any activity Working with the also gives members a chance to meet new people On April the Leos of Georgetown were invited to attend a charter night In Weston There the had a chance to meet other Leo groups to find out how they operate Many are now looking forward to the lecture In Niagara Falls and then a twoday conference In Sudbury The Leos are now planning several activities for near future A games night is being promised to the senior citizens of Georgetown In addition much time Is being spent In the organization of their or charter coming up June 22 The of Georgetown would like to thank all responsible for magnificent banner which was presented the Lionet of Georgetown was an honor to receive such gift and they will remain proud of it as a remembrance of their generosity Leos range in age from 15 and are always looking for new and interested students who ore willing offer suggestions and get Involved Anyone who would like to join the Leos Stephen Rutiedge Verdict fight the wheezing and blotlcs for the infection Azzopardi offered praise for work however and for the nursing staff at hospital Its easy to look back and see what should have been done he said I think Ashenhurst Is a good doctor and en asset lo his community he continued The nursing care this child received was pretty good and nothing from the nursing point of view was done Incorrectly rwlce during the time that Robin Lee was in the hospital Dr Ashenhurst performed examinations to see how 111 the child was After the first one in the morning Dr prescribed to settle her stomach and every six hours as necessary to stop her wheezing During the day the girl became worse and Dr returned to Ihe hospital at approximately 11 to reexamine the baby I went to see her and she knew me and settled down he I examined her and she cooperated completely noted that everything seemed all right but Robin had continually vomited during the day Fearing dehydration he noted that the only sympton was sunken eyes and believed that intravenous feeding may be necessary later When a child vomits all day dehydration la one of the things you look for he told the Inquest I felt confident that I had many more hours before the situation became critical and decided towalt for awhile had admitted Robins older slater to hospital the previous day with a bad infection and he thought Robin may have the same trouble and he noted that he was more concerned about the brownish color of the vomit than with the amount The reason for transferring her was because Robin was not responding to treatment we offered he added We needed more expertise to diagnose the problem and I felt she should go to The Sick Childrens Hospital In Toronto only minutes away r still felt I had many hours before dehydration he said While Robin died and pronounced dead on arrival at Peel Memorial where the ambulance driver rushed her when it became apparent she would not make Sick Childrens Hospital SERVICES UPHOLSTERED furniture recovered and repaired Quality workmanship T H WEED CONTROL Air Conditioning and labor guaranteed Phone 8778170 for estimate and
