Commonwealth ExServices League at the leagues 19th conference held at Wellington New Zealand in February The hosts on this occasion were the New Zealand Returned Ser vices Association of Edinburgh was elected fifth Grand President Immediately following the formal opening of the conference by the Prime Minister of New Zealand the Hon Norman Kirk The conference which was attended by delegates from countries had before it resolutions embracing welfare pensions medical and em ployment matters among other subjects of common concern to former members of the ser vices throughout the Com monwealth The BCEL links together Ihe exservice organizations of the Commonwealth coordinating where necessary their ac tivities and assisting them to meet their responsibilities towards and women whether or not they are individually members of these organizations SOCCER House League Scoreboard SQUIRT DIVISION Spurs 1 Boomerangs 0 A hard fought game and these youngsters did very well most of the boys played soccer for the first time and both teams were coached by new coaches This game drew a good crowd as Is usually the case in the Squirt division and was well entertaining It was Dean Jackson of the Spurs who put the Spurs ahead In the first hair of the game that proved to be the winner The Boomerangs hard in the second half could not come up with the equalizer MINOR ATOM DIVISION Magpies 6 Tigers 0 As the score shows this game was a little onesided The Magpies displayed superior positional play and were able to cash In on their opportunities six times Andreas Hack banged in the first ha Uric of the season Singles went to Geoff Cannon Jamie Hooker and Brian McQueen The Tigers had a tendency to bunch up too much causing them to be caught out of position The goalie of the Tigers was under pressure or most of the game and his excellent play stopped the score from being even higher MAJOR ATOM DIVISION Dynamos Colts 1 As expected a very even gome Both teams played good soccer with the Dynamos coming out on top with a two to one victory It was not until two minutes before end of the game when Jeff Waterworth scored the winning goal Rod Schwab of the Dynamos and Frank Madden of the Colts did the other scoring before the climax of the game when Jeff scored the big one MINOR MOSQUITO DIVISION Spitfires 0 Flyers 4 This game was quite even In the first half until the Fivers got two quick goals late In the half One was from a free kick the other from a penalty Just before the whistle for ha time the Spitfires were a penalty but missed their chance to get on the scoreboard In the second halt Flyers started strongly and added two more goals The Spitfires did start to play better towards the end of the game but failed to break the Flyers shutout performance The Spitfires were playing quite a few new boys and had only one practice prior to the game so they can be counted on for better performances as the season progresses Scorers for the Flyers were Gary Duncan Kevin Stuart and Keith Ledger MAJOR MOSQUITO DIVISION Raiders 0 Pegasus 0 This game could have gone to either team if they had a lucky break However defence predominated with both goalies picking up a shutout The tie was a fair result The Raiders with their new coach Bob Lock- wood looked very sharp in their passing play and considering that they did it without having a Ere season practice they must considered a top contender this year MINOR DIVISION Chargers Rockets The Chargers started off very strongly in this game putting on much pressure In the Rockets goal area However It was the Rockets who went ahead 1 as a result of a breakaway goal by Mark Milton The Chargers fought back and were on even terms by half time as the result of Glen Mercers well taken free kick from just outside the 18 yard line In the second half Jamie VanDvke put the Chargers in front by heading In a beautiful centre from ace dribbler John Colter The Rockets now staged a comeback and evened the game up on Andrew HordcaatleB goal That was all the scoring and the tie was a fair result JUNIOR GIRLS DIVISION Olympians I Junior Nationals- 1 Girls soccer has become popular in Georgetown The first game of the Junior Girls between the Olympians and the Junior Nationals provided more excitement than many parents could take Sherry scared for the Olympians but a recent arrival from Montreal made things even when she scored her first goal in Georgetown The result was well satisfactory for everyone SENIOR GIRLS DIVISION Blue Bombers 0 Red Rockets- 1 You may say that these two teams picked up where they left off last season only the result was a reversed one Beth Kewley leading the defence for the Red Rockets held the Bombers off bay very strong on defence for the Bombers is classified as one of the best But it was Susan Smarda of the broke In alone to score for a victory Janet Sm edema played strong game for the Bombers making the strong play of Tracy Porter of the Red Rockets ineffective It was a good game BINGO THURSDAY NIGHT at 800 pm HOLY CROSS PARISH HALL REGULAR GAMES PER OAME OTHER SPECIALS JACKPOT 59 Numbers Invest in Real Estate initial I if luiu I Ik mill vmir Irti run nid in
