course listing for full time students while some existing programs will be expanded and offered at new locations In the area of applied and liberal studies Sheridan will introduce new program en Library Techniques for Sciences In order to meet the demand for specialized personnel in 1 institutional and professional medical libraries Sheridan was requested by a eminent committee to odd a two yeir health sciences option to the existing Library Technician program at the Oakville Campus According to Geraldlne Hughes of the Library Technician program Sheridan is the first community college in Canada to offer this kind of program and possibly the first college in North America Students will receive in in basic library techniques in addition to in medical human anatomy liberal studies psychology sociology biology and health and environment Second year will offer reference work and special courses in classification I of medical material as well as dental material Field practice in health sciences libraries Is compulsory HEALTH SCIENCES Graduates of this program ore expected to fill the need for trained para professionals in health sciences mainly In hospital and medical libraries Tne new twoyear Packaging program at the Oakville campus willfeature all areas of I physical and structural design including problems concerning protection of the materials in the package controlling packaging cost meeting government packaging regulations and distribution of the product from producer to warehouse to consumer During the two years of study students will become familiar with all aspects of materials used in packaging such as plastics metals glass pa rand board and will learn about different inks which are com pa table with packaging surfaces In addition they will study logistics and costing sales marketing elements of design safety and protection and unit packaging a device used in connection with the introduction of computerized checkout stores Work experience in he packaging Industry will be obtained between first and second year of the program with eventual employment leading to design testing production and selling either packaging systems or year Bookseller elective in General Arts and Science designed to instruct students in the necessary skills and techniques required to organize maintain and administer effective bookshop services Students will concentrate studies in five major areas- books ell stocking product knowledge public relations and business practice for eventual employment in commercial bookshops college and university bookstores private and antiquarian bookshops and department stores They could also expect to find jobs in purchasing departments or universities colleges bookstores and larger libraries APPLIANCE SERVICE The Technology Division in Brampton has added a oneyear Home Appliance Service Technician to its list of of ferings for fall The program becomes a full time day program after four years of sponsorship by Canada Man The objective is to meet growing demand for more qualified service technicians to handle the necessary In and maintenance services With emphasis on practical real life application of skills students ore given a firm theoretical foundation to acquaint them with the latest developments In appliance design and schemes A home appliance service technician installs services and repairs automatic washers dryers ranges refrigerators dishwashers and other major portable appliances Service technicians must possess the skill and electrical mechanical knowledge to diagnose and correct any difficulty the ap pliance owner reports A supply of new and old model appliances is made on which students can work each day The program has been developed and will be taught by appliance vicemen as a result of close co operation with domestic vice industry In addition to new programs here will be an extension of offerings this fall The oneyear Travel Counsellor program and one year Modelling and Fashion Careers program will be given at the Credit Valley Campus starting In September Modelling is already available at the Oakville Campus while Travel Counsellor is currently offered at and Brampton Campuses DAY Also in September the two- year Early Childhood Education program will be given in Brampton which will include demonstration Day Care Centre where from
