Three Shutouts Featured In Squirt League Soccer SOCCER STANDINGS GIRLS SOFTBALL THE HERALD BY FRED KERR There were five games scheduled In the squirt division and in tb four games for which we have a report a shut out was featured mere were 3 shut out victories and one scoreless tie In the Monday game the powerful Bombers squad bombarded the Canucks goal and with goals by Andrew Cook and Michael registered a 30 win In the second game Dave Klassen of United scored a vital goal to pick up two points for United as they edged the Golden Hawks 10 We have no report on the Boomerangs vs Eagles encounter The Giants fourth game of the week and the tie was a fair result as It was a very close game Both teams had several chances to pick up a goal but failed to capitalize on them The fifth and final game was another cliffhanger as the Stingrays got two points from John Ca tilings gamewinning goal against die Royals Johns goal was the only goal of the game with the Royals having some chances to even things up but unable to get the ball into the net MINOR ATOM In the first game of the minor atom encounters the Golden Jets nipped the Tigers with Jamie Becker picking up both goals for the Jets This was a well played same and the referee noted that both teams were well coached We have no report or score available for the ThunderbirdsvsAjaxgame In the third and last game for the minor atoms Magpies and Hearts played scoreless but we have no game sheet to report on the game MAJOR ATOM In the first of a pair of Major Atom games the Falcons registered a victory over the Colts Good passing by the Falcons forwards led to their first goal as Dunne Wilson netted the winning goal early in the first half The Colts came on very strongly after conceding the early goal and only some ex cellent saves by the Falcons goalie John Scott kept the Colts off the scoresheet Near the end of the game Dave Whitehead popped In an in surance goal tor the Falcons The other Major atom game also ended In a result as the Dynamos shutout the Bobcats Unfortunately we have no report on this game MINOR MOSQUITO Five games were scheduled for the Minor Mosquito Division but only four were played as the Checker vs Aces game was postponed until later in the season In the first game Checkers and the Aces exchanged goals for a 11 tie Aces who played the game without a full squad scored early in the game and come within a minute of racking up a victory but Michael Kitchen of the Checkers became the hero of his team when he booted home the equalizer with one minute left in the game In the second game the Phantoms put on a strong showing for their coach Bill who commute to th game from Newmarket Chris March played a verv strong game In the midfield area for the Phantoms who had goals from Randy Robinson Stephen Rlddell and Tim Blakesley had two goals for the Wildcats The Wildcats played well but in trying a bit too hard for the equalizer when they were down 32 sot caught short on defense to allow the Phantoms an extra goal leaving the final score for the Phantoms In the next game the league leading Flyers racked up a 51 victory over the Spitfires The Flyers picked but four goals in the first half with two of them coming from penalties In the fairly even second half the teams exchanged single goals as the Spitfires played much better In the final game the Wildcats shutout the Aces with goals coming from Ed Blelhart and David Crevlns MAJOR Three of four scheduled games played during the week with the other game between Raiders and Rangers post poned until later In the season In the first game of the week Pegasus eked out a come from behind victory over the Rovers Donnle Davis of the Rovers scored the only goal of the first half to give to man team a io margin at the in terval In the second half Rovers were further handicapped when they lost another player through Injury and were unable to hold out the Pegasus attack Bill Wilcox tied things up for Pegasus and David wicket scored another to get the shut out over the Owls The Owls game the Cougar a good game Holding them to a single goal by Kevin Thompson In the first half In the second Robert Ripley made sure of the two points as he scored two goals one of which was a penalty Mallabon and Murray Parsons have the Cougars team in top form now and It will be hard to take points off them In the final Karnes of the schedule We nave no report or score on the Owls vs Panthers game Peewee games this week featured one interlocking game and two games in both minor and major divisions In the weeks first game an In terlocking encounter between the two teams Olympic and Centurions ended in a victory for the major division Centurions The bigger Centurions squad were the dominant team throughout most of the game The games star was Pete Wimmer had hattrick for the Centurions Tom had the other Centurions score while had the lone marker for the Olympic team In the second game of the week the Beavers proved too strong for the Wolves team and ended up with a 30 shutout over their main rivals for the league pennant The Jaguars picked up their first win In quite a few games as they edged the Chargers Last week the Chargers dominated play against the Kings but ended up being lucky to tie the game It was much the same pattern in this game as the Chargers applied almost constant pressure on the Jaguars goal The unfortunate Chargers failed to beat goalie Simon Willis of the Jaguars until late in the game when they were down by two goals The Jaguars goals were both sccred on breakaways one going to John Lister and the other an own jtoa Despite strong last minute pressure by the Chargers the Jaguars held off desperately for the two points The next game was another all minor affair and the minor Peewee league leaders the Kings proved too much for the Rockets as they had a win The Kings scores went to four different players Andy Woodham George Kevin Harrison and Jeff John scored the only goal for the Rockets who played only nine players The final gome of the week was an all major game between Beavers and Celtic Brian was the scoring star of the game as he banged home all four goals for the Beavers as they doubled the score on Celtic Billy Kent hod both markers for Celtic who put upa strong effort with their nine players BANTAMB As usual there were two Bantam games this week The first gome was a very close one with the Colts scoring the Nationals by the odd goal In seven This close result Is typical of play between Colts Nationals and the Trojans as they Jostle Tor second third and fourth spots behind the undefeated Arsenals squad had the golden touch in this game as he found the net for all four Colts scores The Nationals three goals were shared by Dawson Deere and R The other Bantam game was a more uneven affair os Ar senal back to their early season form after a point last week blasted the Trojans Aresenal dominated this game and proved that they will be hard to beat before the season ends SQUIRT North W Bombers United 4 14 Canucks 4 4 Giants l Spurs 4 South League Royals i Stingrays Eagles 3 Golden Hawks Boomerangs 2 MINOR ATOM Golden
