Julie Burns of Georgetown Tested In National Playoff By CHRIS BURKE The annual National Youth Bowling Championships came to a close last Wed nesday after our days of keen competition excitement fun and frustration j Georgetowns girl Julie Burns who caught the hearts of everyone when she captured the Bantam Girls Singles Provincial crown March found herself up against some real sharpshooters last week Her final tally was 11 wins and 13 losses to place with the fifth best record among the nine girls Julie averaged a very respectable over her 24 but the breaks just come her way Three of the first four girls who bowled against Julie came up with games over the 300 mark After the first two days she had a record of four wins and eight losses The third day was Julies day however as she won seven of nine games to pull up Into a three way tie for fourth place only outpoint down from third place The third day she was defeated in all three games even though two of these were over singles She ended up In fifth Girls competing in Julies event were Shari Meier of Prince George BC Chris of Edmonton of Estevan Sak Cindy Crabbe of Man Heather Smith of Northern Christine Dams of Gatlneau Que frustration BUSY SCHEDULE There was never a dull moment for the 266 par ticipating youngs tent as they visited the National Aeronautics Building on Sunday dined and were en tertained at a dinner In Gatineau Quebec on Monday enjoyed the National Museum of Science and Technology on Tuesday and toured the Parliament Buildings the National Arts Centre and the War Museum on Wednesday VICTORY BANQUET On Wednesday evening the Ontario government sponsored the Victory Banquet Ottawa Civic Centre Mr George Nixon member of the Ontario Legislature for was host Also attending was the mayor of Ottawa The main course of the dinner consisted of roast sirloin of beef mashed and carrots Apple pie and ice cream were served for dessert Next on the agenda were the awards presentations Teams and singles were summoned up to the victory platform by event to receive their gold silver and bronze medals The medal winners in each event were as follows One point was awarded for each win and half a point for a
