could not be dealt by the board and were referred to other government agencies or already being used by the present board We noted that is recommendations are already 1m piemen ted said Edna Robinson committee chairman In our opinion eight recommendations were directed to other agencies and only four were completely unacceptable to the committee committee recommended the board implement a survey of practices for evaluation of students In mathematics and the languages and make provisions for adequate testing hi these areas as requested by the Renaissance Committee a committee we commend the Renaissance Com Squabble over water and sewers brings charge of sabotage presenting us with a stimulating challenge said Mrs Robinson In essence we were compelled to examine and review critically a wide range of the boards operations Other recommendations Include a study of com municatJons between the school and home cooperation by toe board the Renaissance committee In developing ap prenticeship training and improving communications from the board to the students and parents concerning course materials However the committee did not support a recom from the Renaissance group to reconsider the stand taken on closing the school because they felt the board had dealt with the matter Also In regard to sex education the Renaissance Com mlttee asked that parents be continually informed concerning course material and the names of Instructors and their moral and educational credentials Miss Robinson noted In her report that the board operates within the Ontario Human Rights Code in regard to its employees and the committee could not support the recommenatlon regarding moral credentials The Committee also did agree that a recommendation to films and related materials used in the sex education course prepared for the parents The report said this Information could be obtained by any restricted view of the total educational process in the region Miss Robinson said A good job Is being done we know we can do a better Job OAK QUEEN PARA Large MlecttOR of Wallpaper In stock at discount prices 8778905 BACKSTAGE production staff add the finishing touches to the set for Georgetown Little Theatre Boeing Boeing Dianne Brunette installs the light bulbs In the chandelier in the entrance way to Bernards flat Regional public works committee chairman Jack Us has accused Burlingtons mayor George Harrington of trying to sabotage the region The statement was made during a heated discussion of water and sewer control In council last week The discussion concerned whether they should be returned to the area municipalities Coun Ratlin added that the mayor speaks two ways one to his city council and then a different way to the region I tried in May and June to Coin check your clothes Hills residents will pay extra to check their clothes while swimming in the two new indoor swimming pools Coin operated lockers will be Installed In the change rooms of the pools because of an chltectura mistake which does not leave enough room for other arrangements The coat of the lockers varies between and to install but Recreation Director Doug Colllson told council that the money will be recovered In a year because of the revenue from the lockers and the decrease in staff requirements Reforestation assistance The Region Con servatlon Authority Is once again offering Relorea ration Assistance Program tor land owners within Its jurisdiction Assistance will be provided for a minimum planting of two acres of trees For further Information please call Monday through Friday help on the Burlington situation by integrating the system Coun Rat lis said But I got no help from you I was accused of destroying your engineering department because you want to keep your empire clown there Mayor Harrington had originally requested that a cost study be done for water and sewers to see if It could be Before we build an empire here let see If It can be clone more efficiently at the local levels the mayor said If It proves that it more efficient for one group todo It let them He aded that his motive is to protect the taxpayers from being scooped However Coun Bill Mason accused the mayor and other councillors on the committee including Mayor Anne MacArthur of Milton Burlington Councillor Connell and Halton Hills councillor Ernie of ob structing the regional duties Mayor Harrington what are you doing on the regional council talking like a Burlington councillor he asked We had this straightened out on Friday and you Just wont accept it On the Friday regional councillors met with the Hon John White Ontarios Treasurer When asked about the problem of water and sewer control Mr White said It should remain on the regional level to control and becomes economical at the region However Mayor Harrington told the committee members yesterday that If Mr Whites statements do not matter if Its cheaper at the local level then water and sewers should be returned agreed that a cost study Is needed to com pare the expenses from the region with the four areas last year First he suggested an outside firm do the study but later changed it to the regional treasurer Don Farmer However regional director of public works Bob Bailie was not in favor of any regional staff member doing the study because he said some would not believe It As far as I can see this temoon any report done by a member of the regional staff will not be supported if It goes against the thinking of the people In favor of returning the water and sewer rights he Mr Bailie added that last Wednesday the public works department showed on charts that they are operating with fewer men than the area had before regional government and no one believed them The committee members supported a motion to have the regional administrator Ernie Reed meet with coordinator from the area municipalities and the chairmen of the Oak vlllo and Burlington s to discuss water and sewer problems and return with a recommendation Georgetown Little Theatre PRESENTS BOEING BOEING A COMEDY BY AND CROSS THURSDAY FRIDAY SATURDAY 18 OCTOBER CURTAIN PM AT PUBLIC SCHOOL ADULTS2 STUDENTSS1 Shop
