Field Championships this coming weekend at Sudbury Lauren University as a result of the fine performance at Sal urdays Regional Meet Georgetown entered in Ihe meet which together competitors from the Georgian Bay Southern Ontario Athletic As sociotions in the hunt for right to advance to It also represented the most challenging test to which the upstart Rebel squad has been exposed year In previous years town competitors needed only to place among top three in the Peel meet in order to qualify for OFSAA but changes In the Provincial As social Ion policy has made the feat that much more difficult with the advent of the Regional meet Despite only three days rest between meets and facing stiff com pelt ling Rebels still man aged to qualify fourteen com for OFSAA in ten separate events Rebels Ian Clark led all qua lifer n Ihe long distance events with clear cut victories In the Midget boys and metre races Victorious in the metric mile in a time of four minutes seconds Ian outdistanced his nearest competitor by more than metres while In the 3000 the margin was closer to half lap as he won in a time of nine minutes five seconds Cathy pulled away from ire pack in the final two taps win in fine style the Senior Girls metres in a time of four minutes sec- Two of the four Georgetown Relay learns were successful in their bid to go lo OFSAA The Junior Girls metre lie place Hurdler Janlne Tetrault and sprinter Jeff missed In races by one of a second while Pauline Cathy Clark Bryan Justice Jeff Gimpel and the Senior Girts Relay team also just fell short of berths in their events For the team however the meet was a milestone as Rebel athletes showed a level of consistency never before seen In track cams The team has attained depth go with their ng of out standing individual perform A strong showing this year by tttc Midget team and the arrival of athletes such as Bryan Justice and Peter Rio ter from other schools has done much to improve the overall strength on the team The convincing manner in which the team performed must also add credence to he training program implement by coaches Donna Metcalfe and Karen not to mention the sixty athletes who
