service club In Georgetown that is wilting to take a tentative look at gelling Involved in some form of a track and field club in Georgetown Last Tuesday evening June Brian Barnes lhe head coach of the renowned Scarborough Optimists Track and Field Club and Boss the founder of the club were invited to address the Georgetown Optimists Club There arc quite a few Georgetown athletes as members of the Scarborough Optimist Track and Field Club and this plus the fact that Georgetown are excelling in track and field competition prompted the local Optimist Club to seek more information on lhe subject Unfortunately from this writers point of view Instead of information scaled down to the basic level that the Georgetown Optimists requested what got was a Ibcsis on the formation of a club that would have done wonders for a business administration class To digress somewhat the Georgetown Optimists had been aware of the success that heir Scarborough counterparts had had in getting involved in a track and field program Aside from thai there was another awareness that Georgetown youngsters were very much caught up In track and field successes Several weeks ago Mr McLaren a staunch ardent and extremely likeable proponent or track and field had approached the Georgetown Optimists with a request for funds to help defray costs of a Scarborough Optimist Track and Field Club Junket to Great Britain The plea was enhanced by the disclosure that fully 16 of the members of the Scarborough based club were and the local Optimists promised to discuss the matter The discussion led to the invitations being extended to Mr Barnes and Mr and the possibility of setting upsomckindof a youthorlcntcdclub on a small level in Georgetown The Optimists creed Insists that the needs of youth be catered to whenever possible and wherever possible and it was with this tenet in mind that the Georgetown club got Immersed in the track and field possibilities Mr Earle was invited to speak
