Carol Batten Ontario Outdoors Weather dull but good for bass BASS on opened with a variety of weather conditions across Southern Ontario There overcast periods as well as some very hot and sunny weather It is enough to teat your skill as a fisherman All in all it was a very good weekend for fishing especially for Bass and I am sure that most or you got in a few licks with the old fishing rod I was away with a group of young people and did not get much of an opportunity to fish no complaints though because like to work with and for young people These were the Young Peoples group from Maple Avenue Baptist Church and are a great bunch of people and realty like camping and are always ready to learn more In a recent column suggested Fairy Lake in Acton fish for Bass on opening day and I know thai scleral people took me up on that Nelson Potruff and his sons went along with Bob Crosby who caught a Pike that measured Inches and weighed in at about pounds Fairy Lake as I have mentioned several times in the past is a hard lake to fish due to the heavy concentrations of weeds but it also turns up many fine Bass every year Maybe this is the reason I fish it several times every year and the fact that it is so close also helps in my deciding to fish it The ever popular FLATFISH is a good lure to keep tackle and I am never without a few or them in a variety of sizes and colors I have round them to be under a variety of conditions of water and weather and some of the biggest bass I have ever taken have been on Flatfish However any fisherman that restricts himself lo restricts his fishing sever collection of lures and always have a to start with and sometimes persist with that lure lathe detriment of my fishing success But I just enjoy using it The last few years I have been swinging to plastic worms lifehkeones thatis The old or cheap kind that arc stiff and don have that soft moist feel arc of NO use whatsoever and fact Many times I add one of these lifelike worms to the tail hook of another lure to add attraction and appeal and this sometimes turns a fish ess day into a bring home the bacon day For instance I used a yellow jig on one particular occasion and went through the complete tackle box because that did not work As an after thought the Jig was put back on and a homemade red plastic worm was added to the hook First cast a nine pound pike Later that day the same set up of jig and worm took a thirteen pound pike The same thing has happened when fishing Bass Add the worm to the hook of some of your favorite lures and test the action at your feet or over the side of the boat If not then give it a try S Remember what I have said on many occasions in novation is your best fishing secret Good luck with your fishing this summer keep me informed as to what you arc doing and where you arc going in ONTARIO OUTDOORS g Pineview Corinths unkind hosts by downing visiting Eagles ALCOTT LADIES TENNIS TOURNEY Following a tennis match at the Gordon Alcott
