of the area tar a number of years and I hove the right to be herd Prejudice regardless of type or form is thesaddest port of the human makeup And even more sadly one that Is too frequently displayed Prejudice Is based totally In Ignorance A large part of ibis protest regarding the McLeod family is ignorance Since moving to McLcods have been faced with problems Having to move Ihelr dogs to the new residence before they were Story picked up pickyourown To the editor of The Herald We wish to thank you for mentioning our Pick Your Own farming operation in George article that appeared on page In the July issue of your paper Mr reporting was both realistic and accurate Since this article was pub lished we have had many new patrons from the Georgetown area who previously knew we enisled and who V specifically mentioned reading about us in The Herald As a result much improved since driving distance from nearby makes evening harvesting both convenient and practical Yours very truly David Kay Moffat Thrifty Pick Produce ready to bring wis only the beginning An abandoned half starved stray complicated things The dag was a continual running free amongst Mc regardless of their attempts to trap and control The police and canine control became fre visitors Called by both neighbors and by The done all I ly possible end lions including I iking shifts lo sit up through entire night Hi help resolve the problem Ihe very about the discontent their dos hive made and believe me irt hard to It is naturally understand able that people around them been by dogs Furthermore it is understandable thai they are concerned about lis future con hough the problem has been eliminated On this account I can Hut as a kennel owner and operator of the same breed of dogs Siberian lluskys I feel I am qualified to say given a chance to settle In these people will find dogs Incredibly Already since stray problem has been eliminated these people adnll the dogs are much less a nuisance But as natural since so much commotion has been made at the house between stray dogs visits by the police building inspectors canine control and soon the dogs are Clear the air once and for all compared lo the difference In cost However if one feels thai one needs the very few thous and extra square feel Mr Brunt in his letter seems to Survey planned HALTON HELLS S RECREATION and PARKS NEWS VIEWS Ira of To a m A shift worker called the fire department be cause employees thought the building had been struck by lightening and the roof was on fire Deputy fire chief Bob Hyde said Monday There was no fire Mr Hyde said and no evidence that lighten ing had struck the roof The only other call fire fighters had was on Friday at a when Ihey extinguished a targe stump burning on Mr Ed Walsh properly fourth line of Acton these iwo young gentlemen included that the addition and renovation was definitely pro- then was the reasoning behind decision cease Ihe proceedings when the debenture was ready ind there was no civil uprising rem payers Answers to such lions should be clarified and readily to Ihe public The air should be cleared once and must look at Ihe past before by the highly advancing with the future pressure group Noll wondering If he is Informed enough to know thai the original plans for renova tion and addition included an amphitheatre outside under the trees which could be used to such a purpose In good weather Both Mr Brunt and Mr feel thai our mayor and own council arc weak kneed waffling nincompoops The mayor and council did not waffle under the Influence of a vocal minority pressure group neither were they in The authors these letters In question have obviously not considered the financial as pects of such an expenditure as new library Although we are not taxpayers we are well aware of the new financial burden put upon the taxpaylng public With new Gordon Memorial Arena Ihe imminent new Ac ion and the added cost of regional govern men I Ihe majority people do not want an Increase In taxes that a library which includes only build ing itself no interior lure stacks or parking ties would entail the taxpayer docs not realize is that Ihe Town has borrowed money to pay or such projects as the Acton when they already have in the bank collected from lot This is a time of restraint in Ontario To help Ontario reach a balanced bud gel requires as The Honour able McKcough so aptly puts it selfdiscipline and day today resistance a gainst ihe temptation to spend and to borrow Everyone must join forces work to wards a financially sound pro vince Thcdlffercncein square footage between the and renovation plans and the new plans was small truth They voted for ulng the plans for Ihe new library forcing the group to appeal to the Ontario Municipal Hoard for a review The mayor and council were adamant In their stand on the library Issue We fail to under stand how anyone could inter pret their actions as fling or as beng actions car rlcd under intimidation Lei us conclude this letter by commenting on Mr Brunts remarks concerning Mayor Hill statement I figure a librarian Is just a librarian Mr Hill is perfectly correct in his observation and deserves no criticism Mrs Betsy Corn well Is just another paid public of the taxpayers When some authors of letters try to present the image of being more learned than they actually are they often appear to be simpleton We would suggested that Mr Bnmt and Mr slop worrying about getting priorities right and start worrying about get ting information right Mary Susan Breckinridge What this Is basically trying lo say Is thai Instead of taking lime to find out the s McLeods themselves these people went ahead and banded together to complain As I have said much this com plalningwaslnlgnorancc Had Ihese people instead banded together to eliminate the stray problem this letter and the rest would In all probability have been unnecessary The people who started Ihe petition and all those that signed It excluding one family have never spoken Ihe McLeods They sent ihe police but never came them selves to try to understand the position If they had they would have found people who are willing lo go out of the way to help friends and neigh bours hardworking The place they now own was an eyesore having been abandoned for quite some lime and now after the short time they have been there ihe place Is beginning lo take shape and look like an attractive home Instead these people were not only unneighbourly enough not lo try to meet the McLcods not to try lo see the McLeod prob lems but also complain only their own narrow point of As I have said before lama kennel owner along with my husband resident of the his entire life and my mother and father Our kennel Is no different from the McLeods given those dogs a chance lo settle In and we arc a licenced kennel with in the town of Acton Yet our neighbours do not complain possibly with the understanding lhal all dogs bark at limes but 1 feet the basic reason is because the breed itself Is quiet and our dogs arc also basically quiet The have been con demned and point of fallque and drepres Blon yet no one save one neighbour is willing lo lend a hand until Ihe situation is settled Or the very least to give them a chance As I have said Icansympathizewithlhc area people concerning noise Believe me it annoys no one so much as the kennel owner We love those animals too much wish any ill of them But still although I m sure thin letter shall bring some hoi and self righteous replies the act remains that It is a pity tint love community spirit are only strong enough now to band together to do ill will to another Yours sincerely MaryC Bailey Kennels Slcven Bailey Lisle Mills llohet J M Us I would like In add that I asked my neighbours to sign a paper ng let Is my personal view but merely to stale that dc not find the kennel and tin dogs difficult or a a continual nuisance 1 add I do know most people who signed therefore was not soliciting names of fritnds Every person I asked signed Ihe piper and all said that they did nol find he dogs i problem Itself is to be presented at OAAB rules on farms industry The Ontario Municipal Board OHB has delivered rulings effecting fanning operations throughout Hills and giving the green light to the enlargement of an industry on Trafalgar Road An amendment to the plan ning act calls Tor
