totally produced play per formed at the high school and as a first attempt It comes off very well Producer Paul McGrath and director Susan mode It an entertaining two hours for those who filled the audience Employing the theatre in the round concept for set changes which at limes became noisy because dangling microphones were struck the play which highlights the rapid rise of a young lo great heights in business had a continuity which made It easy Tor the audience to follow Much of Ihe dialogue from the original play was updated and references were made North Sports a Georgetown sports store and to such Canadian personalities as Judy Marsh Probably the most effective number performed by a very professional chorus line was Secretaries Are Not A Toy The 19 member chorus line had good tonal quality and choreography made It en to watch Edgar Thatcher who played the president of Ihe World Wide Wickets Company whose building remains the centre of the stage action again payed a strong role He plated a strong role last year in Li His strong voice combined with a sensitive submersion into the role or chief executive set a high standard for other east numbers to follow Thatcher teamed hero Peter Clarke in one of the best duct scenes to on stage locally when llley sang the Ivy League fight song Clark also displays a strong acting confidence far beyond his years He would do well to consider seeking more roles in amateur theatre How To is a very adult production It requires strong acting singing and dancing All these points came across very well during the opening night performance It proves that the students at the high school have the ability to provide the entertainment which many might consider below their ability How To should also provide the basis far most student participation In ihi entire production of such future plays Not only would this provide experience for those Involved but the sense of accomplishment may provide a continual effort for ex Ultimately it is conceivable that such per formances could and should seek competition with amateur across the province and not sold within the realm of student drama festivals strong performances provided by Sandy Smith the secretary who gets her man In he play and by Melissa Bell who portrays the not so dumb blonde without any office skills who vamps her way into the Miss Bell particularly provided a natural confidence on stage and carried off her rote well With the exception of the sound problems which caused difficulty In hearing weaker voices at the rear of the cafetorium the 1977 be rated successful One suggestion should be made for next year If next veers production is to be a similar hour show the audience should consider bringing cushions The seats are hard for Christmas
