Ontario Outdoors- THE HERALD Wednesday July Some ponds need stocking By It Now that we that weekend out of the way we con to some serious fishing The bass fishing In the local areas arc very good even If they are few and far between I am still convinced that with a encouragement the conservation authorities will stock bass in some of the ponds The large pond at Terra Cotta is according to some biologists too warm for trout I know I have caught some really large trout In that large pond but that Is the consensus of opinion It would be Ideal for and it is large enough to make It challenging fishing I doubt if they will ever allow boats due to the factor but the share fishing would be ideal along with wading However that takes effort on the part of fishermen and I found they arc a lazy lot Get mad at me if you wish but I get very little reaction from sportsmen and neither does anyone else A very small percentage of outdoors people are members of the biggest organization that works for them the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters I spoke to about fishermen recently and only one was a one other decided to join For less than a year you have Insurance protection of your sport and the chance to fight with an organized group for your rights The magazine comes a month with news and informative articles and Is well worth the membership Call me at or write to Carole Street Georgetown Ontario for all the details and membership forms A five dollar resident licence is in the books for Ontario anglers and this is a welcome note I mentioned this news time ago in this column and it is more of a finality now with the probable date of 1980 A major expansion of the fisheries program is underway and this is also good news for the million anglers in Ontario and it seems that the licence will effect those the ages of 16 and and will include women Let hope the money is spent on fisheries thai is where the extra capital will come from and I don mean the fisheries cither Shakespeare has a recently released recording unit called the 400 Depth Finder a new system eliminates interference from others motors and gives detailed readings of cither school or Individual fish Well worth looking into for the serious fisherman and those who fish the larger waters of Ontario I just got a letter from S Sporting Goods and they tell me the effective formula of their Ok Time Woodsman or Insect Repellent has been increased to BO per cent As mentioned here is the main ingredient but insect repellent needs other compounds and this one has the well known Cmtronclia at per cent This make an even better buy and the price won keep you awake If you wish to sec the Michael Dumas print that each into the OFAH and big fish contest I have one in my display room It is truly on outstanding reproduction of a bass and anyone will be proud display it and lie prizes in the contest are well worth the effort of getting your big fish weighed and measured and certified 1 will be glad to discuss at any time the contest and the Federation with those who may be interested as I feel that it is a good contest and brings recognition to the sportsmen and women of Ontario I have to
