one long gome of Russian Roulette and for some mysterious reason I always seems to finish up with the loaded chamber at my head When my eldest daughter Louisa requested a microscope Tor Christmas no matter how I tried I could not forsee any potential danger After careful consideration I concluded she could nol blow up the house start a fire malm anyone or destroy the house plants with such an instrument so my naive reasoning went it could possibly be entertaining and might even prove educational Well educational it has been So educational that none of us are eating any more Everything edible has been tested by my daughter bless her little heart and has proven to be contaminated Strangely enough cookies and potato chips are apparently quite safe I no sooner place dinner on the table than the microscope mokes its dreaded appearance Screams of horror every slide You can eat that it positively crawling she gasps What am I supposed lo do Give to Ihem frozen Having become addicted to eating at least once a day for some years now I haven the courage to took Into the microscope myself I can only surmise thai If I have survived this far maybe the fates are with me After all how contaminated can macaroni get KNOW WHERE At least I know where the strange noises come from in an otherwise silent house It is obviously from all the lively lime microbes inhabiting those packages boxes and bags on my kitchen shelves and according lo Louisa verdict on cheese my refrigerator is positively humming barely suppressed activity Food is not the only hazard suddenly enter our lives there are also the cultures she is encouraging Rows of small miners adorn her desk arousing dreadful suspicions in my mind However for any mother there are certain occasions when ignorance is bliss and this Is definitely one area where and total Ignorance appears to be advisable I doknow eggs came with Ibe microscope and I wake up nightly Inacoldsweat visualizing enormous grotesque mutant shrimps slithering down the night darkened hallway toward me Why oh why dldn 1 get her something simple for Christmas Skates maybe or a wrist watch Now I don know whether to merely declare her bedroom
